    Default Loading a gun

Yesterday a great nephew saw a skunk here on our farm, not uncommon, I was not here but DH tried to find a gun to shoot and shells, no to the shells. So he ask me the next morning to go pick up one to have it around for large rodent control. So I take DS and this nephew, who thinks he knows everything about guns and is only 9, buy a gun and shells. Well later that evening I am helping my kids and their cousins with projects for the fair, DH grabs the gun and G nephew and says their going to try it out. The boy is caring the gun, and I really don't know what all took place, but he probaly said to DH that he knew how to load it, then puts 2 shells in backwards and gets it jammed.

    1. It is my fault because I did not go out there and show them how to load it
    2. DH has shoot plenty in his life to know how to load this gun
    3. DH did not supervise right to tell the boy he wasn't doing it right
    4. Did I mention that it was my fault
    5. I realy don't even want this darn thing around, but the skunks are eating my eggs
    6. He finally did get the shells out and they did get to test it out on a bucket out in the field.

Hopefuly it will remain in the basement when ever this kid comes and stays with us.

    Done ranting now thanks
    Sandy

I'm just glad no one got hurt. It seems like that may have been a possibility here. But, I would definately keep that gun away from anyone who you have not witnessed absolutely know what they are doing. Oh, and don't beat yourself up.

If he is that interested in guns, you might want to talk to his parents and get him into a gun safety course. Not only will they teach him the proper safety, but they will also teach him to be responsible with them.

I grew up on a farm and used guns from a really young age, but my brother and I both took a hunter's safety course really, really young.

I also agree, keep it locked up. We live in town now, and still have a gun (DH's hunting rifle), we keep it locked and DH keeps the keys with him. The kid's have never happened upon it, but I know eventually they will get curious, so we are sure to keep it locked and trigger locked, but we will also get them into a safety course before that happens!

    I'm confused.

DH was with the boys. DH is supposed to be knowledgeable about guns.

So how is it your fault?

I'd personally like your husband to explain to me, who has handled guns since age nine, how HE LET THAT HAPPEN? He was the adult on the scene, HE was the one responsible for the firearm, and apparently HE wasn't in total control of the situation, because the unproven minors managed to load the gun backwards.

So how is it your fault?
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
