Dreaming: What would be your ultimate house?
I am curious.... what would be your ultimate house( including location) if you were not limited by money?
For me my ultimate house would be located in WV on land with natural gas rights at least 5 acres with the house smack in the middle so no one could build near it. With the natural gas used for heating and maybe an off branch summer kitchen with a natural gas. I wouldn't want one in the house since I'm not used to them and they can explode. Also a natural gas generator.
The house its self would be 2 stories above ground then one level 1/2 in and out one side almost completely under ground with small windows and the other side where you could walk out on ground level and then a basement and a finished attic. It's pretty large because heck if i had enough money to build it i would have enough money for a large family.
Off from the kitchen would be a nice large country pantry with rolling shelves like libraries use to store magazines and what not in the back. Then a large counter space in the front to unpack groceries or use for working space. Chest freezer storage in the basement as well as canned good storage.
A Dumb weighter connecting all levels Hall in the upper levels, Kitchen and pantry on the first floor, Laundry room on the semi basement and the freezer storage in the basement.
A Laundry Chute from the 2nd floor down and kitchen to the semi basement laundry room.
I would like to have surround porches on all levels screened that in the winter time you could pull down protective ( insulated ) "walls" from the ceiling like lanais in Florida. But have several Large picture windows in it so you could see completely outside from inner windows. Maybe semi clear panels that would let in light. That would add insulated properties to the home in the winter as well as add a TON of sq footage for kids to play on and lounge in. In the summer it would keep the edges of the house shaded so increasing the cool breeze and allowing for somewhere to sit and not be bugged by bugs. Maybe on the upper level of the porch have a glassed on room to grow hot house veggies and to go to to warm up & get sun in the winter months.
I would also want the roof to made of the solar panel shingle look a likes. Then over the porch areas to heat water for in the house. And use a no tank hot water heater in the house or heat it from the Natural gas. The natural gas generator could be turned on at night or large usage times when needed. I would want to stay on the power grid though so the electric made could be fed into it so we could get a check every month from the electric co.
I have been watching Green planet channel a good bit here lately so i would want energy star appliances( including a dish waster!! supposedly they use less water then actually washing the dishes yourself) and a composer right outside the kitchen door. A Double flush toilet and low flow shower heads ( a must that they are detachable. And for all the light bulbs to be the nice energy efficient twisty ones.
A large garden outside to freeze and can veggies from. A few chickens for eggs and meat. I don't know if i would want to keep a steer to butcher at the end of the season or if it would just be easier to buy and put in the freezer. A nice raised herb garden as well.
Maybe a screened in pool.. either using UV or salt to keep bacteria down. Oh and a nice playground for the kids with a heavy duty swing thing where it could be used as teens and adults so they would have a longer usage life.

As we only have one bathroom right now, I would love a house with at least 2 1/2 baths. I would also love a master suite with a large jacuzzi tub. A sunporch and a private backyard. And a laundry chute would be wonderful. And a room for the maid!!!!

A large old single story farmhouse(in excellent condition) on at least 50 acres of good farm land/pasture. Definitely a metal roof. Big deep porches all around. Hardwood floors throughout except baths (tile for baths)
A couple of decent sized ponds stocked with bream, catfish and bass. Lots of old oaks and pecan trees. Small fruit orchard, plums, peaches, apples etc.
Big chicken pen with multiple "pastures" so dem birds can roam and scratch. Must have laying hens! Would like to have a couple of milk goats and a horse.
Kitchen herb garden.
I would want everything in and near to the house to be wheelchair accessible for Momma.
Three large bathrooms, so no one needs to share.
A huge kitchen with lots and lots of windows and a beautiful view. Must have plenty of cabinets and counter-space. Woodstove plus modern stove so I could use the woodstove in the winter. A large pantry.
I want an outdoor picnic area with the heavy-duty concrete picnic table and benches you see at parks. A barbecue pit.
Large in-ground swimming pool for DH.
A cat play-room and enclosed outdoor cat run.
Every place I've lived my entire life has had tiny kitchens and bathrooms so I set a lot of dreams on having a really big nice kitchen.

I would want a single story log cabinesque house with a finished basement and a large deck out back, surrouded by pine trees. Maybe in WA state. Lots of big windows to keep it from feeling closed in and to enjoy the breathtaking views.

I would want an open floor plan between the living area and the kitchen. A huge kitchen with all new appliances. Lots of counter/cabinet space. A large walk-in pantry with built-ins. An island seperating the kitchen and the living area with a sink and plenty of room to cook (I can dream LOL). I would also want a built-in eating area, like a cozy booth in a restaurant.
It would have 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms: master suite with a large jacuzzi tub and seperate shower, 2 bedrooms for the kids (SOMEday hehe) with a bathroom connecting them (think they call it jack-and-jill... dunno...), a den/study and a guest room. There would also be another full bath for guests.
Nice to dream.

~I'd like a 4 bedroom house with lots of character(built-ins, pocket doors, window seats, antiques, great woodwork, ect). I want a large master bathroom with large, custom rock wall shower and extra large jacuzzi tub. I want a vaulted or very high ceilings throughout the house. Since money is no object I'd situate the house on the edge of the marsh on at least 10 acres. I'd also have a huge fitness center with spectacular views. It would be half dance studio with wooden floors and half enclosed swimming pool. I want to swim year round! Since I'd be very near the water I'd have a dock and small boat as well. And I saw this awesome idea in this month's cottage living magazine. A woman had a little outbuilding on her property that she called a sleeping room and they sorta 'camped out' in it on summer nights. That would have to have a metal roof! She also had a private, but not enclosed, outside shower(fun!). And lastly, I'd hire help to come in a few times a week. A gardener, a pool guy/gal, a housekeeper and a driver(not really house related but whatever).~

We bought our *dream* house almost 3 years ago!! We always wanted an older home we could renovate slowly and restore as much to original as possible but of course with todays standards of living. My house was build in the late 1800's and is 2 and a half stories with a walk up attic. We have 5 bedrooms and two baths...one with the old claw foot tub which I am having refinished. The house originally had a maids quarters so we have a back stairway as well; unfortunately it comes down into the bathroom at the moment!! Apparently that used to be the pantry..... that is soon to be changed again! We live in a small town but have a half acre lot so lots of room. Mature trees around it and great gardens full of perrinials. At one point someone removed the front porch...we also intend to replace that! All the major work was done(ie roof and electrical) when we bought it and although it will be an ongoing project for many years...we truly love it and all the character it has. Someone is always telling me I was born in the wrong era as I love all things much older than me and also a much simpler way of life! Now....if my husband would just get back to work I could continue my project!!!

Nice log cabin (with porch)with a see forever view on at least 10 acres, some wooded(so we can harvest our own trees for heat) Huge pond, easily seen from house so I can watch nature in action.
Must have a woodburning fireplace capable of heating whole house in a large livingroom with views. Well insulated and energy effecient.
Big kitchen with island and large eating area overlooking a great view. 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms. NO formal diningroom, NO master suite, NO huge bedrooms. I want most of the space used for living, not sleeping. (don't get the whole big bedroom thing)
Finished basement with no low ceilings for hubby to have a killer workshop. 2 car garage with large shed attached.
My feathered friends would have nice feeders, houses & baths in our beautiful yard filled wth that pond, flowers and trees. Large fenced in garden would complete the dream.~*Darlene*~

For the most part, I already live in my dream house: a 3 story solar log cabin on 5 acres. But since we have it up for sale, it's possible that I will be looking for that dream home!
I like the craftsman look, with a big front porch and roomy areas. I want a private bath in the master bedroom. A big kitchen with lots of cabinets and a pantry is a must. And I like a big dining area as we invite people over a lot. I want plenty of storage all over the house. I like a walk out basement that is finished. I want it to be energy efficient, and to have land around that we can grow veggies, fruit, and flowers on.
Oh my! Other than the craftsman part, I've just described the house I live in!Spiritual:

Mmm, my ultimate house:
A house in Hilton Head, SC (or Savannah, GA) on the beach (stilted, of course). A foyer with a dual staircase leading to at least four bedrooms (two on each side) and all the bedrooms would have their own master bathroom and walk-in closet with a rotating clothing storage area. The path between one staircase and the other would have a door on the left side, which would open up to a patio deck complete with a 100,000 BTU stainless steel grill and oodles of lounge chairs. Off the main patio would be a table and chairs to sit in to eat, complete with a small refridgerator next to it.
I'd have my own gaming room (pool table, air hockey, darts, skeeball, arcade games, etc), my own workout area, a room with mirrors in it and a stripper pole, an entertainment room (movie screen and an aisle of movie theater chairs, bean bag chairs and two overstuffed recliners complete with their own mini fridges), a finished basement for the kids (two walls would be covered with chaulkboard finishes, the other two would be dry erase boards - my kids love to be all artsy), and then the biggest bathroom ever! My bathroom would have a bathtub, a shower, a huge closet and the floor of the bathtub would open up and turn into a jacuzzi.
My backyard would of course be facing the beach but the side yards would be my gardens. I'd have a large flower garden with a stone path and a gazeebo in it. The vegetable garden would have all my favorite veggies in it and I'd have a separate section for fruit trees.
Did I mention the entire property would be eco-friendly? Sprayers along the eavestrough section with a natural mosquito repellant, all of the water from the house would be filtered into the garden and I'd have rain barrels at the corners of the gardens.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

Welllll, you said money was no object sooooo....here we go. I want home that is totally green, totally off grid and totally private including a private road to it. I want one that has a spacious feel to it but not thousands and thousands of square feet, after all it is just DH and I. I want 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, gourmet kitchen and exercise room. I would like to have an indoor pool to exercise in also but in a separate building from the home. I want wrap around porches and a wrap around balcony. I would want it to be in the mountains but situated in a valley that would let me see the wildlife roaming around and have a private lake nearby that we could fish in. I would want a 3 car garage so that DH and I could each have our own hybrid parking space and of course since it is the mountains we will need a 4 wheel drive, hybrid if possible. I also want outbuildings for the snowplow and snowmobiles. I want a workshop for DH to tinker in and one for me to make metal sculptures.

If I could have my dream house I would have a plantation house ( my favorite type of house, we have quite a few here in the Ozarks) but I would have it in Georgia probably or Alabama.
It would certainly be on plenty of land. 100-200 acres. Plenty to farm and have a whole pile of children running around.
Many many bedrooms, several bathrooms, huge kitchen, sun room, pool. Stuff like that. I'll keep dreaming lol.

we would have a four or five bedroom home on 50 acres.
it would be a one story ranch with a full walk out basement.
the master bedroom would have a den off of it.
the dinning/living room/kitchen area would all be open. the kitchen would have plenty of cabinet space, counter's, and an island with a grill.
there would be an open fireplace.
a veranda all the way around the house.
a pond
we would have cows, chickens, goats, horses, pigs, and would run an animal rescue.
