    Angry Small Town Life...GRRRRR

I just don't get it! I love my small town, and love small town life, but days like today just totally tick me off.

Yesterday was the 4th of July - no mail, no banks. Ok, I accept that, they need a day off too, and I was fully prepared for the fact that they would be closed.

But our little post office, which is only open 2 hours on Saturday anyway, was CLOSED TODAY TOO!!! Ok, I guess I can deal with that, I'll just mail my Ebay packages on Monday, though I really wanted to get them out today. So I went to the bank (credit union)...only to find they were closed yesterday AND today too! What the heck??? So now I just wasted gas and time running back and forth to the two places I needed to go today, and didn't get anything accomplished. I hate that.

Did anyone else run into this today, where businesses that were closed yesterday were closed today too, when normally they would be open the day after a holiday closure??

Add these things to the fact that my ex STILL hasn't sent the child support, and now it's just about a week late....starting to look for the light at the end of the tunnel, but thinking it's an oncoming train!

Our post office was open today. I know that only because we had mail delivery. I didn't actually leave the house today (yesterday either for that matter...a VERY nice change in routine.)

It's funny, there are definitely some benefits to small town living, but then, as you've pointed out, there are some tough things as well.

In the end, though, I bet you'd agree that the benefits outweigh the detriments. Stinks that you had to use the gas, though.

As someone who grew up 1/2 mile from a major airport, I am loving living in a small town now.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I've lived in a larger city for several years, and I DO love my small town, and all the benefits that go with it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything...but some days..you gotta wonder what the HECK people are thinking!!

We DID have mail delivery today, so the carriers were out on their routes, but the post office itself was closed both yesterday and today - only access to PO Boxes was open. As far as the credit union, I can't explain that one at all - they were closed both days, offering nothing more than ATM services.

I live in a small town also, but our bank was open today, not sure about the post office desk though. Hoping your weekend gets brighter and a fat check is in the mail on Monday!

Our town used to be small, but it has grown. I miss it being like Mayberry. Sorry you wasted your gas and I do hope that you have your child support check in your hand soon.

It's Saturday and our bank was closed as usual, as was out post office. They are both usually closed on Saturdays. Is it different where you live? We got our mail today too.

    Thanks all!

I guess in light of the posts above, I should be thankful we have ANY post office and banking hours on Saturday!

I, too, am hoping to see that c.s. check come in the mail soon. Though I'm certain it won't be on Monday - they will still be traveling back from Disney at that point. It's just causing me a lot of stress at this point that it hasn't been sent. I knew when he said he'd "try" to send it from down at Disney that it wouldn't get done. From the message on his phone, he won't be back home until Tuesday, so even if he overnights it at that point, or wire transfers it, I probably won't have it until Wednesday, at which point, it will still help, but between now and then, I'll have to do some tall talking to the 'powers that be' to keep things running smoothly until the money comes in.

    stepping off my soapbox now...sorry!

Just because you had mail delivery doesnt mean the lobby of the post office was open. I bet it was only there for the mail delivery people! All of them around me was also closed on saturday and i dont live in a small town! I think witht he way things are going i bet we are gonna se alot more post office lobbies being closed on saturday. I know the small town in ks that i used to live at, i worked at the post office and it was never open on saturday!

Our small town post office is always closed on Saturdays so I wouldn't expect them to be open. We do get mail delivery though. And we don't even have a bank!!!

Our bank was open Saturday as I had to make a deposit.

I have been staying home though. Saving gas and now I find I have a leak so I am not driving until it is fixed..I have heard horror stories of people driving with leaks and end up blowing up the car!

Not me. no way no how....
