Default What type of countertops do you have?

Last week we started putting new cabinets into the kitchen, nothing special, just needed to make it more functional. Problem is now I need to find countertops. I love the look of the recycled glass, but it's pricey and I think it will be "too much" for this simple little kitchen. I like the look of silestone, but couldn't find a color that suited me. I am currently living with cardboard over the base cabinets,so I should probably make a decision soon. What do you have, and do you love it?

Ours are granite, and yes, I love them.

When we moved into our house, the kitchen was a disaster. Seriously...disgusting. So, we had it remodeled, and we spent the extra dough on the granite countertops. They are durable they are easy to clean and they are beautiful. But, they did cost an arm and a leg.

Ours are Corian solid surface. They are also expensive, but so worth it! I really love the look of them and the fact that they really make the kitchen look much better.

Here is something to think about when remodeling. Do not overdue your upgrades for your neighborhood.
When I redid my kitchen I did not put in granite as if we decide to sell I would not recoup my money as no one in my neighborhood has granite.
I did put in laminate. I really wanted corian but checked on the price for my kitchen. I figured I can replace my counter tops 2 more times with laminate and still not pay as much as corian would be doing 1 time.
So if I get tired of my laminate in 10 years or the color goes out of style I can replace it with a different color. If I had gotten corian I would be stuck with the color I picked out.
I like my laminate and have no problems with it at all. Easy to clean and does not stain.

Plain old laminate. I have big dreams and if I worked hard enough I could have the recycled glass countertops I really want but the other posters are right, I would be putting too much money into the house and wouldn't be able to recoup it when we sell.

Good ol' laminate for us as well. If you look closely, it's spiderwebbed with myriad little scratches from over the years, but from a general point of view, it looks nice.

    Nice kitchen Suki!

We have laminate now, but I would love to have one of those poured cement ones....something to think about getting for the future.

We've had 3 kitchens in the last 5 years due to river flooding. The last 2 times I've put in Silestone. Absolutely love it. Looks like granite, is antibacterial, and can be repaired. You can even set a hot pot or baking sheet on the counter with no damage. Plus you can undermount the kitchen sink which I really like. They really have expanded thier color choices as well. Yes, it's pricey but I always would get burns on laminate and the Corian got scratched alot. So far so good with the Silestone. Oh..and it's heaven for rolling out dough or kneading bread!

Ceramic tile. I hate them. Keeping the grout clean is a nightmare.

We have laminate, it suits our needs and looks nice. If I could have anything I wanted, it would be quartz, I really like the look of that.
