Siphoned!
This happened a few weeks ago, but I was eyeing the yet-to-be-fixed gas door today and got ticked all over again.
A few weeks ago while visiting my mother someone siphoned gas from our car. It's one of those w a lever on the inside of the car. I'm glad they didn't scratch it up, but the latch on the door is bent. I have no idea how they managed to do that, no scratch but signficant bend.
The stupid thing is, we have a friggin' Versa. It's only got around a 10 gallon capacity. And what were the chances we would even have any? I mean, was it really worth it? They only took about half a tank.
I wish the door had a lock on it.
We actually forgot to mention it to my mom, and the next time we were up she said, "oh you should go out and back the car in under the motion lights, we've been having problems with siphoning in the neighborhood." Yeah thanks for tellin' us, lol.

How awful for you! I hope they catch whoever has been doing it.

Man, that really stinks! And what's really the latest sad news on siphoning, is that even if you install a lock, they're drilling to get into your tank. It's unbelievable sometimes!

Someone stole our gas can full of gas for the lawnmower just this week. And it was on our back deck right by the door!! AND there is a motion sensor light there! My neighbour found the empty can in bushes on his property....gggrr!!

Yep, that is exactly what I was gonna say. If you put a lock on, they just drill a whole into your tank and then it gets really expensive!
I'm hoping DH doesn't get hit. The gas gauge on his truck is broken so he just watches his mileage...if he got hit, he'd never know until he ran out of gas!

That's awful! Sorry this happened to you.
I expect we will see a lot more of this.

I still would go get me a locking gas cap, they are only drilling vehicles that they can easily get under. I have a locking gas cap on every vehicle we have(4) and all of them except my truck they would have to jack up just to get under!

My MIL was having a problem with the neighbors stealing the gas from her cans for their 3 wheelers. Wll the last time they did it apparently they didn't check the cans. She filled them with bleach water. There was enough gas smell in the can that you couldn't tell there was bleach in it. It's been really quiet over there without the noise from the 3 wheelers.

Small city, suburban neighborhood at that.
I still don't understand why they hit our tiny car. Mom said the deal usually is that get people they've followed from the gas station, and we hadn't been there. I don't know if anyone has been nabbed in the neighborhood yet.
I keep hearing in more and more, though.
Dh's coworker got hit last week. He has an SUV and they drained his freshly filled tank. He didn't realize until he was already on the interstate on the way to work, and he ended up running out on the road. A guy in a utility truck stopped right away and drove him to and back from the gas station, though, which was really nice. But he lives near DC so that one didn't surprise me as much.
