    Talking My $825 "frugal" weekend!

I know, you're all going...huh? How did you spend $825 and still be frugal. Well, I didn't, actually. We had 2 huge trees and 4 stumps in our yard that needed to come out...so we had to pay to have that done.

However, the back half of our backyard is all mulch, where the kid's swingset and sandbox is and behind my pond, etc. We could never get grass to grow, so we just mulched it in about 5 years ago. Well, we needed new mulch, so I have been getting ready to call around and buy a truckload of mulch. Got it from the tree guys, FOR FREE! Granted, they gave me way to much, but some of the neighors have been coming over and helping themselves, so hopefully, we'll be able to use it all!

Then, they noticed we had a firepit. So they left us all the wood! Granted, they left me a whole tree. We are not gonna have to purchase firewood for about 10 years. We were gonna rent a log splitter, but I think we found someone to loan us one, in exchange for some of the wood! Woo Hoo!

So, I have to say... A single tear was nearly running down my face as I handed them my check...but at least I got some free stuff out of the deal!

Well, no fire wood for as long as that lasts should help ease some of the pain. As we will no doubt find that the price of fire wood will increase this winter as well.

Compared to most tree service companies around here, $825 doesn't sound too bad. Would it have been more for them to actually take the wood with them? My sister's husband's company charges out the boo-tay for tree removal, and then extra if they have to take the wood, etc. Of course they then turn around and sell firewood in the winter, when they're not as busy. Either way, I'd say you got a good deal! And kudos on the possible barter for the log splitter!!

I mean $825 is alot but think of all the money you now saved not having to purchase wood for the fireplace/fire pit? I say it was money well spent.

That is a good deal. It's like they paid you some by leaving you a bunch of cut down wood and mulch instead of hauling it off. (You don't have to buy that stuff now, so, I guess so...)

that really is a good deal! we got an estimate and it would cost us twice that for our 2 trees.

plus all that firewood is so worth it
