Improper vegan diet results in father's child abuse conviction
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...arker0704.html
I read this and I was wondering why the mother got 30 years...
She should have the same sentence as the father?

Ya, why does he get a lesser sentence? There has to be more to this sad story.

Enemas for punishment? That seems like child abuse.

It fine to teach your child to eat right but to look at them and not see a health problem........ You have to be blind........... Your body needs certain things........ It seemed like they were more worried about fat kids then health kids.......neithr one of them need anymore children. The kids could have all sorts of health problems......
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

Stories like these make me so sad. Kids don't know any better than what their parents teach them and they trust their parents because...why wouldn't they? They are supposed to love and protect them. Makes me so sad.

There are thousands(or more) of vegan parents that feed their children healthy, plentiful diets....this is really sad!

It's messed up and even gives vegans a bad name. They were extreme in their religion and beliefs. It really had nothing to do with the vegan diet but more to do with the fact that the children was just abused...and starved..
I have no idea why the mom got the harder sentence.
This is not the first story that came out about parents raising vegan kids.

My first thought had been why didn't a dr giving regular shots or check ups notice this was going on ... but obviously they were not going to a regular dr.
Wow... but then again if these people are getting in trouble for under feeding their children what about parents that over feed their children junk and their kids end up obesse and or with health issues .. should they be punished as well?

IT's so sad what people do to innocent children in the name of their BELIEFS. Very sad.

If fed a proper vegan diet the poor children would have thrived. It is a miracle that they did not suffer organ damage or have heart attacks!

The first article posted by Gabe mentioned that the father said he learned this in his nutrition studies at university. Huh? If he studied nutrition seriously at that level, he would/should have known how to manage a proper vegan diet and been quite aware that his children were not thriving. Ignorance is one thing, but this is doubly inexcusable.
As for the difference in sentences, it sounds like these were separate trials with different juries, which could account for the difference.Donna
