Late-Night Neighborhood "Excitement"
Well, Dh and I stayed up late...chatting, relaxing, surfing the net...it was nearly 1am...we were thinking "we'll head to bed in about 15 min).
Then we hear and absolutely piercing SCREEEEEECH...it lasted several seconds... We jump up and pull up the blinds (remember, it's summer in Alaska...aka "light") just in time to see "SMASH"!!!! A driver had come around the corner going somewhere in the range of 45mph (remember, this is a residential area)!!! He smashed head-on to a parked SUV, AFTER fish-tailing around that corner!! There's about 50 feet of brake/skid marks on the road!! We see him drag his front bumper THROUGH the nose of the SUV taking it's bumper with him!! He swerves across the street (screeching and sparks flying), almost hits our mailbox, drives over our LAWN! Then he "wobble-drives" down the road!
We're looking out the window, grabbing for the phone, and we see the neighbor come flying out of his house and jump into his pick-up...he takes off after the guy...
Meanwhile we're on the phone with 911...we gave them a report and what description we could...and then go to help the neighbors and wait for the cops (to give another report).
Well, the guy was caught...thank God! He could have hurt SO many people!! His car was totaled and it died about 2 blocks from here. The neighbor guy waited with him for the cops. The guy was TOTALLY drunk... We found out he had hit another car (parked) on the way here and totaled it, too.
The "charming" young man has NO insurance!!! I have NO patience for drunk drivers...I wish the penalties were 10 times more harsh! If ya wanna drink, FINE. But DON'T risk the lives of everyone else in your path!! Ya have NO right!!! GRRRRRRRRR
We waited until after the cop took pics, reports, and left and helped the neighbors clean up the damage and push the car off the road (yup, he hit it SO hard he moved it about 8 FEET!! This is after coming around a 90* TURN!). We didn't get to bed until about 3AM.
So, that was our late-night excitement... We all joked that next time we have a neighborhood, late-night, pajama party we should skip the car accident stuff and have a BBQ instead.
I'm so glad no one was hurt...thank GOD!!Kace - married to Dh 12 years

Wow that is quite the excitement. I have no patience for drunk drivers as well. How hard is it to call a cab or a friend? I don't know. I don't drink so I guess I don't understand. Thankfully no one was hurt though.

I'm glad nobody was hurt. Darn drunks! How hard is it to do your drinking at home and STAY home or call a sober friend to drive you? I sure hope they hauled this idiot off to jail.

Oh wow! My patience for people who drink and drive afterwards is too thin. I dealt with it alot when I was younger, with my dad, and I'll never understand why anyone does it. I'm glad no one got hurt!

Two winters ago we had a drunk kid hit our house with his giant SUV.
He had leaned out the window to puke and made an almost 90% turn off the road. He clipped the corner. You could see in the ground the path he took. Had he not hit, and completely taken down, a 20ft tree that threw him off course and into the back yard he would've hit square in the middle of the side of the house.
As if that weren't bad enough, after getting out and stumbling around a little, he got back in his totalled giant soccer mom mobile AND LEFT. First he went the wrong way. Turned around down the road, and came flying back up the road, throwing sparks. There was a trail of damage for a couple miles, downed road signs, ravaged christmas decorations, and churned up mud tracks in yards.
The ONLY reason we were able to catch who is was is because his license plate came off in our yard (he also somehow left his cell phone and left shoe.)
What ticked me off the most was I looked him up, and just ONE MONTH earlier, he had been charged with underage drinking, dwi and some accident charges. His trial didn't come for that until after this, but HE STILL GOT OFF!!
I know exactly what happened, he was only 5'4" or so, that's pretty darn short for a guy. And he was headed into the Marines. I figure he was probably trying to drink with his giant friends that have way more tolerance and couldn't handle himself (helped of course by probably treating him like the jerky runt he was and getting him to drink more just for entertainment value.)
Unfortunately he was able to hide or got home in time or something, but the police didn't get him before he sobered up, so he wasn't charged with drunk driving. He should've been charged with MUCH more imo, but somehow ended with "failure to notify owner of unattended property of an accident." Um, we were asleep in the house and we watched him flee. Yeah, I was TICKED.
I found him on myspace and OH was he cocky!!! He was only 19, of course pics all over the place of him drunk and drinking. Proud of it. There was a message left from that night from a girl he'd apparently hit on to please stop doing that and maybe he should stop drinking.
The best part, though, that sent me rolling? His main interest: OFF ROADING!

Wow!! You did have excitement. Nothing makes me more upset than a drunk driver. I'm so glad no one was hurt.
My husband and son were hit by one about 3 years ago. Thank God the good Lord was looking out for them because neither of them were hurt seriously even though our car was totaled. My husband's head hit the side window glass and he was stunned and incoherent for a few minutes. My son had to reach over and stop the car and turn it off. Both of them were covered with glass from the side window and the windshield where the driver of the trucks arm had went through it. He had his window open and his arm hanging out and when he hit them on the driver side head on and down the driver side it went through our windshield.
The idiot drunk hit them and then went flying down the road and turned over. When my husband got to him he was upside down in his seatbelt with his arm about torn off telling them he was okay and not to call the cops. The guy had been spotted at a gas station about 3 miles up the road and the law had been called but it was to late before they could get him he had hit dh. He had a cooler of beer strown all over the road that was in the back of his truck. He had multiple drunk driving arrests but still had a license. Its just wrong.

I am so glad that no one was hurt in all the excitement. People who drive drunk ought to be locked up and the key thrown away, imo. Actually, that would be too kind!
