Just A Poor College Student
Um, hello.
I'm Samantha, better know as Herbert (long story). This fall, I'll be entering my junior year at Swarthmore College (Economics major), outside of Philadelphia, PA.
I will be living off campus for the remainder of my time at Swarthmore, on a fairly tight budget. Budgeting is not my strong suit, but will have to be. I don't have many expenses besides transportation, school supplies, and food. But those tend to be large ones, as I have some annoying food allergies (gluten intolerance, mainly), am admittedly slightly snobbish of the quality of food I eat, the price of textbooks is scandalous, and as for transportation, well, the regional mass transit, SEPTA is pricey (and necessary to get to any super) and my boyfriend lives in Boston.
Other stuff about me: I'm a geek, I'm a Free Culture member, I love dancing - Scottish, English, Contra, and Swing, I play lots of board games, and I read way too much.
I found this site off of the Wasted Food blog and it looked nifty.
So um, yeah, self-introductions are not my strong point. But hi!

Welcome to the village! And just so you know, in my opinion there is no such thing as reading "way too much." Dh and I are big readers, just about every horizontal surface in our home has books on it. I have my library card number memorized and as of this morning I have 20 books on my reserve list at the library!
On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.
On 01-13-89 I gave birth to the love of my life.

I'm sure that many of us can help you out. I have to help a fellow geek.
If you need help with gluten stuff, let me know. My oldest DS is autistic, so we have some experience with eliminating gluten a bit from his diet.

:howdy: My son, a college senior, really enjoys Economics too. We are with you on the price of textbooks. Drives me nuts how they make you pay so much to buy and only give you a mere pittance upon return.

My oldest is a college senior and we know about the price of books.
We have bought his books at half.com before for a fraction of what they cost new.

Hey Sam (er, Herbert)!
I have a silly name, too...George... I'm with ya...it's a long story.
My Dh and I are both college students and live on a super-tight budget so I know where you're coming from.
We sound a lot alike...I read a ton and play games (board, card, video), too.
Hope you really enjoy it here! It's a great group!
PM me if ya'd like.
Welcome!!
