Prayers for My Aunts Please...
Hi there everyone -
If you could, say a little prayer for both of my aunts, Shirley and Clara. (My mom's only sister and only sibling, and my dad's only sister.)
My Aunt Shirley was rushed to the hospital late last night after becoming ill and passing out at home, and not waking up. She was airlifted to a larger hospital about 80 miles away immediately. She had an aneurysm in her brain that involved 2 blood vessels and it burst. No one knew she had it. They did surgery today to relieve the pressure on her brain, and tomorrow they'll seal off the involved blood vessels. Time will tell how much damage has been done.
My Aunt Clara has been ill for over 5 years with what the doctors thought was Crohn's Disease. She's also been on crutches for years due to problems with her legs, which has led to problems with her back. She recently underwent back surgery, which led to a post-operative infection, which aggravated the Crohn's issue. That was when they found out it wasn't Crohn's disease, but a raging infection that had been going on for years, and had basically destroyed her lower digestive system. She's been in the hospital for weeks now, and may have to have surgery to remove part of that system. Obviously, that's going to be a life-changing situation.
I'd really appreciate the prayers - this is causing my parents a lot of stress. It was enough to be running to the hospital to visit Aunt Clara, but now they are running to the other hospital 80 miles away to try and support Aunt Shirley's husband and family.
Thanks everyone!

I just said a prayer for them. I'm so sorry your family is going through such a difficult time.
How much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have. Life is full of people who have more than they know what to do with, but cannot be content. It is the capacity to enjoy life that brings contentment.---Unknown

Hi everyone, thanks for the prayers and good thoughts!
A little update. My Aunt Shirley (with the aneurysm) developed an infection after the surgery they did to relieve pressure on her brain. The docs were not planning on doing any further procedures until the infection was under control - an infection in the brain is a VERY BAD thing. However, something must have happened to make them move things up, because they did a second surgery today, I believe to seal off the arteries involved with the aneurysm and remove the aneurysm itself. I can't be sure, details are hard to come by right now. What I do know is that she is in a drug-induced coma, and is not allowed any visitors or any stimulation at all. No one can talk to her, make any noise when they enter her room, or touch her unless absolutely necessary. I know they say a person in a coma can still hear you, so if that's true, I can't imagine how confused and frustrated she must be right now to be surrounded by silence.
My other aunt, Clara, HAS been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease - after 5 years of doctors telling her it was, but not treating it properly, apparently. Hopefully now she will get some results and have a better quality of life. Surgery is out of the question now, so they are tackling this from a medication standpoint and trying to handle it that way.
Please keep up the prayers - these ladies mean a lot to a whole lot of people!

Another update:
My Aunt Clara (with Crohn's Disease & back surgery) is now out of danger and is in rehab in hopes of going home in the coming weeks, once she recovers fully and is able to get around.
My Aunt Shirley (with the brain aneurysm that burst several weeks ago) is NOT out of the woods, by any means. She is in Week 2 of a medically-induced coma. The original idea was to keep her in the coma for only 7-10 days, and then bring her out of it to start trying to work on her recovery. The doctors have tried twice to reduce the medication that is keeping her under, and both times, her blood pressure skyrocketed and her heart rate dropped (which still doesn't make sense to me). She gets very agitated when they try to bring her out of the coma. Also, her kidneys are showing early signs of failure - so if she does come out of this, she will need to be on dialysis. The outlook is not good right now.
Please keep both ladies in your continued prayers and thoughts. I really appreciate it. This is very stressful on the family, as it seems to stretch out with no end in sight right now - at least in the case of my Aunt Shirley.

Glad your Aunt Clara is out of the hospital and doing better and hope for some good news about your Aunt Shirley as well. All this waiting must be so hard. Big hugs.
