Question Does your family have set "seats" at dinner?

Meaning, do you each sit in the same chair every time you sit down to eat?

We always had "assigned seats", for lack of a better term, growing up. They weren't really assigned, but we each picked a seat & that's where we always sat. That is how we do it in our home too. Dh sits at the head of the table and going to the left it's: me, ds10, dd13, dd16, and ds6.

I always assumed that everyone did this, until today when I was reading a blog about a woman who's son would always lick the plate at the seat he wanted to sit at for that meal. Gross, I know.

But it just got me wondering about how everyone else does it.

We do at our home, and we also do at the in-law's house when we go to dinner. It was even that way at home when I was growing up. I don't know how it got to be that way. We just sat there, and then continued to do so from then on I guess.

Not really assigned seats, I think were just so used to seating in the same seat. Even when our parents come over we just all sit down. I think I'm the only one who may move in a different seat when the grandkids have supper here or a cookout.

This is us too. The only oddity probably is that DH and I have different seats at breakfast than any other meal. It wasn't done on purpose but my "assigned" seat is the one that makes it easy for me to sit down once I've gotten everything off the stove or pull the rolls out of the oven after dinner has started. DH sits in that chair at breakfast as he will frequently cook bacon and eggs for everyone on the weekends. We didn't plan it that way. it just happened.

Kind of. DH will sit at the head of the table but our table is rectangular and sometimes he sits at the opposite end of the usual spot. I usually sit to the left of his usual spot. When DS is home for meals, he sits at the end opposite DH's usual spot.

DH and I would just automatically sit in the same seats, but DD (age 5) thinks it's fun to move us around and assign seats, so we usually go with wherever she assigns us for the evening. We figure this phase won't last long~ and before that, we did all sit in the same seats most of the time.

It's just me so I eat whereever I want. Either on the couch watching tv or at the kitchen island. When I was younger, we sat at the table. I may of sat in a particular seat at the table often but no assigned seats.

Always the same seats. Although it changed as the family changed. When we had one child we sat on either side of him, then when the second came, that changed due to the high chair and other things. Now, we are all set up for permanence it would seem. Even when my parents come over, the kids know where they sit.

No one actually assigned us the seats...it's just where we've always been.

Dh and I sit at the ends, Dd and ds#2 on one side and ds#1 on the other side.

this is so funny, we just had a big ta-do at our house because my grown daughter would not give up her seat by her Dad, even though that would mean sitting next to her sister's BF, I finally gave in and sat by the unmovable daughter so the lovebirds could sit next to each other. We were all laughing about it, but it was funny how they would not give in to changing their seats. Crazy kids!
As a child I was brought up that the head of the household always sat at the head of the table. As our family grows I guess it will end up with DH at one end and me at the other. Pass the potatoes please!!!!

Yup definitely the same seats for us in our family (and the kids don't like to switch either), and it seems whenever we eat at the inlaws, we all just sit in the same seats too.

That lick the plate thing would be funny once. If I wanted to make a fuss, that kid who licked the plate would be moved along with his plate to wherever I wanted him.

Everyone here has his own seat and poachers would be told "Hey, you're in my spot"
When we have company everyone sits wherever.

We have always sat in the same seats for the most part. Every once in a while we shift. It used to be DH and I on the ends and the kids in the middle (rectangle table, up against a wall), but now that the kids are old enough, we put them on one end and DH and I on the other. We figured they don't need constant meat cutting now, DH and I might just sit next to each other again!
