You know Darlene this is a highly technical question so I asked my resident crop advisor and he said "Oh I'd say 300 miles would do it."

I have no idea....I'd honestly say a couple of miles down the road.......depends how much he liked that broccoli I reckon. Hope you catch the little thief.

A few miles down the road would be enough for the animal to get lost if it tried to get back to your home. When you do drop it off, might want to make sure nobody is watching you.

Did you ever see the Star Trek episode, "The Trouble With Tribbles"? You'll have to be ... creative.

Thanks for that Geoff, we were "creative". Especially so after we saw it dug another way in and ate more broccoli & cauliflower.
We were getting along so well, Jack would mow, groundhog would eat from the grass snack bar. That went on for weeks ....that was fine, until today.
We've been here for years & never had a garden bandit til now. Thanks for your responses all!

This reminds me of when my fil was having squirrel trouble. He bought a few of those have a heart traps, and he used to drop them off on his way to work---about 10 miles away He actually put stickers on the traps marking each "capture".

I am seriously considering doing this too, but I don't want to relocate them myself. That's going to be Dave's job if we go that route

I think that I heard that about 7 miles should be sufficient. That way he will have a new territory and hopefully not around someone else's garden.
