family reunion - food
ok last minute i know... but i need your all's expert advice on food to take.
"I" only just found out a couple days ago and yesterday made a cake i'm going to make "cake bites" out of & gonna make brownies today.
i also wanna take some "real" food.
thinking lasagna (veggie w/cheese).
what i'm taking is sorta small portions (as i dont have lotsa casserole dishes or other things to take - have no money to buy anything either).
SO, the lasagna i'd make would be in a 13x9 pan. is this ok???
no idea number of ppl who will be there, the demographics of who will be there... and i'm sure hoping to bring back empty dishes.
ideas please!?!?
Thanks!!!

I'm assuming that everyone one will be bringing dishes to share. So a 9x13 pan of lasagna, a cake and brownies should set you up pretty nicely. At my Mom's reunions we just leave a knife and people cut their own portions or we do 2x2 squares. Most people just want samplings of EVERYTHING and big hunks of cakes.

If its a family reunion, everyone should be bringing dishes too, right? I think it would be ok. I know you said there was no money to buy anything but what about those aluminum pans you can throw away? (or keep in my case...lol...)

Deviled eggs are good, you can take alot in a small space!
Lasagna would be good if you can keep it hot. Anything pasta would work well. You could probably get more servings of spagetti or mostacolli in a large bowl than you could in a 9x13 pan. (plus, less prep work
)
Other than that, some sort of salad, either fruit or veggie. Or potato or macaroni salad. Those are usually standards, so you might end up with alot!
I'm sure you'll get lots of ideas here though!

wow!
i'm always amazed at the turn-around time on posts here! lol
thanks everyone SO much!
i'm definitely going to be taking a bunch of raw veggies/fruit to munch on myself. (since i dont eat cheese, i wont eat my lasagna lol)
and yes, i know others will be bringing a dish of their own... i just wasnt sure if what i thought to make would be adequate.
and the aluminum pan may be a good idea if I can find one for a dollar (my budget is super tight... and i'm only buying necessary ingred's for this trip).

thanks everyone bunches!!!

Lasagna and cake sound great! I always take a pressure pot of green beans, peas, or limas and a big ole' pan of crackling cornbread. Cheap and everyone eats it up! Lots of times, folks around here forget the side dishes.

I second the deviled eggs idea.
How about some fresh fruit? It's always good in warm weather. I was thinking maybe grapes, some bananas, some strawberries, etc., or whatever is on sale this week.

Boy, you sure are a busy kitchen bee. I also have a family reunion to go to this weekend. We are to bring a dessert dish only. I'm making a sugar free jello mold W/blueberries laced through the jello.
I think what you are making sounds just fine. When we attend my husband families reunion they do it big also. Everyone makes several dishes. But they are good cooks. Not so on my father's side (they cater) Which is why the desserts only.
Enjoy your family reunion,
Polly

Could you do lasagna roll-ups to save on the cutting? Just a suggestion. Have fun!

Just as important as the food--I take my towel paper dispenser & sit it with the dinnerware, I take my baby wipes container (wipes cut in half-twice as much!) and put that @ the beginning of the food line, I throw in a roll of TP, a first aid kit, camera!, and I take gal milk containers freeze about 4" of h2o in the bottom with lemon slices and then fill with h2o day of reunion. I used to take my 5 gallon jug with a spikit, but, the kids played with it too much and made a mess. Mac & cheese is always a winner with children. We had our reunion a few weeks ago and we took our portable grill and did hot dogs & brats--very few came home. Of course I took buns, catsup, mustard & diced onions. Have a good time and pack a few Tylenol, too!
