    Default Pots and pans

I'm curious. I just finished cleaning up the kitchen after two days of being stuck at the computer. (earlier post) I was putting things away and I have run out of room in my bottom pan cabinet! I started looking and re-arranging and I noticed that I have pots and pans that are 30 years old!

So, now I wonder, does anyone else have a problem with disposing of old pots/pans? If it has a bottom and holds water around here, I'm gonna keep it even if I can afford new. Is that too cheap or weird? Is it just me?

I definitely have that problem. I have a set of stainless steel pots and pans that was a wedding present for my first marriage back in 1991. DH calls these my "ex pans" A massive collection of various cast iron goodies, A new huge stainless steel set that was given to all of the kids as a christmas gift from my dad this past year. Several non-stick skillets and pans. The oddball wok and other useful pans. And then we have 3 sets of camp cookware.

So yes I have a huge problem of letting go of good cookware. I think it comes from my mother. She would use a pan until the handles broke off then it would be used for baking cakes in or ovenware.

I still have mine and they are 30+ years. Wouldn't trade them for something new.

We have lots of pots and pans too. He came with a set, I came with a set and we have since aquired 3 cast iron skillet (Mom was leaving them rust on her porch) and a good deal on non stick pans. Some have specific uses though (wax melting for cheese making - rare these days or for making candles). I really need to dig out the ones we don't use and see if we can get them out of here.

Unless its falling apart, I hold onto it. I always figure too that the boys may be able to use them if they ever get places of their own.

I have a huge collection as well. They all have specific designations-fudge pan, mac and cheese pan, etc....
I teach a cookie glass and my cookie spatula (which was my given to me by an older relative-and is probably over 50+ years old) always gets its own attention. I wouldn't use anything else.

I have Caphelon and don't have any that are ready for the trash. They should pretty much last forever.

But when I got the Caphelon, I yardsaled all of my old T-FAL. Of course, I'm clutter averse, so I get rid of everything I'm not using.

My mom has some pots that are over 30 years old and they are better made then the new stuff you can find.

I have mostly old stuff, but I don't consider it a problem :-). I bought my first two boilers at a Junior League sale when I was 15 years old. It was a quality, thick bottomed set. I still use it regularly. I have lots of iron ware that I don't use very often except for the skillets and griddle, but can't let go of it. In the last year or so I have purchsed a couple of nice stainless stock pots and nice stainless deep skillet. Other than that, most of my stuff is older.

I have the cheapy pans i got when Joe and i moved in together .. because neither of us had any .. my ex had taken all mine luckily i had gotten out with my cast iron thrift store find... i love cast iron and normally use it more then the other pans .. especially since they are already warped and the non stick is already off .. as i said cheapy pans.. but they still work if you lube them really well so stuff doesn't stick for the rest of eternity *lol*

I have one pot and one pan...so no I guess I don't have that problem.

I've been wanting to get a nice new set, but I just can't justify it, as the pot and pan I have work just fine...

*lol* i always figured the fewer pots and pans you have the less you have to wash *lol*

I have what came in the cheapy set 1 small sauce pan, 1 medium sauce pan, a frying pan, and a pot. Then of course a set of three consecutive sized cast iron. Of course my baking selection is better though since i tend to make massive amounts of baked goods when i get to bake. I would like to eventually get a large pot ( aka a 2 gallon or some such ) to make spaghetti sauce, hot sauce, beef stew, and chicken and dumplings ( maybe to can in as well for those things that just need a hot bath).
