House prices took an upturn in our neck of the woods!
We have no plans to sell our house, but I check the zillow site once in a while, just to see what they are estimating our house value at just for fun.
I just checked it for the heck of it, and in the five years we have owned our house, it has doubled in value! We have only put maybe $5,000 into the house (new siding, tree removal, new flooring, and lots of minor things) and LOTS of sweat equity. We do as much as we can ourselves just to keep more money in the bank. It gets frustrating sometimes, but it is nice to see someone estimate it so high!
Makes the hard work worth it!
Granted, if we put it on the market, I don't know if we could actually sell it for that price...but we could start the listing there!

We have the same situation right now. We bought our house four years ago for 108k. Right now it's up to 200k, but we're not selling. Yet.

The house we are closing on Tuesday. We bought for $90,000, but it is worth $150,000. The people just wanted to get rid of it because they were going to an assisted living place! We just happened to luck out and be the first ones to look at it. It even includes an extra land lot next door!!

The original post mentioned Zillow.com - I hadn't seen that site before but if you enter a street and zip code, it overlays the prices right on top of the houses on an aerial photo and shows which ones are for sale. Best way to visualize the prices in your neighborhood. For houses not on the market, that site uses a value estimation scheme that it says is within 15%, which sounds reasonable for this kind of thing.

That is cool but its off on ours. Ours was just appraised at $10,000 more than the estimated value on Zillow. In 3 years our value has gone up $20,000.00 from one appraisel to the next. We've also done more work on it since then too. We will be selling in the next couple of years.

I would not really trust the information at zillow.com.
I looked up where I am at and the information is not correct at all.
