No more lurking for me :)
Hi, my name is Angie, and I've been reading here for several weeks. Your enthusiasm is very motivating, and I've appreciated all the info I've gathered here.
I have actually been a frugal-minded girl for a long time. I guess it started when I married my husband, who brought some credit card debt into our marriage. We wanted to buy a house, so we tackled that debt and haven't carried a balance on our credit card since. We've had some car loans though, and a couple of them were just plain stupid. I used to read and post at frugalmoms.com years ago, but the owner had to shut down the website for personal reasons. I was really happy to find some great forums to read.
We had our fifth child last August, which made us want to move into a bigger home. Did we really need to? Maybe not, but we do love the space we have now and plan to stay here for a long time. We were on track to pay off our mortgage early on our last house, but now we are back to square one with a mortgage that is a little over 30% our net income. Add to that private school tuition for three of our kids and one kid in braces, and we are needing to cinch the belt financially. Like I said, I am pretty careful with money, but I have had my moments where I slip into bad habits.
We recently listened to Dave Ramsey's Extreme Money Makeover on CD, which was great because it got both of us on the same page. We have gone to a 'cash in envelopes' budget this month, and so far, so good.
It is great to see what other people are doing to be more frugal, and I hope I'll be able to contribute some positive ideas.

11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I listen to Dave's show in the evening when I walk my dog.
I stumbled upon his radio show when I was dropping my son off at scouts one night, and that's what really got me thinking we need to be more careful with our income. We kind of had blinders on, and now that we've been on a spending freeze, I think I'm going to have a nice chunk to throw towards savings once all this month's bills are paid.
