What's your phobia?
Posting on the teardrop trailer board about how it would make me think of this, so......
Do you have any phobias? And if so, of what?
I'll start.
I have an unexplained insanely ridiculous fear of coyotes and wolves. If I see them on tv or movies, I have nightmares....it's so crazy.
I have never been attacked, but I think of it all the time when I'm in the woods/country. I know people who have lost their dogs and cats, so at the cabin I never leave mine outside alone.
That whole they're more afraid of you than you are of them doesn't sit with me, and I have had 2 full on panic attacks!! Once in a tent when there was a pack outide around us and once at the cabin when they were howling very close behind the cabin. And the crazy thing is......I LOVE dogs!

Bats. I'm scared to death of them even though I know they eat bugs, etc.

Snakes! I hate snakes.
When I was little there was a kid down the street that would torment me with the snakes he caught. Shove them in my face, chase me with them.
Funny thing is now said "kid/man" has a web site and a business that has to deal with snakes.

I don't like being in water where I can not see my feet. Even as a child I would stick my feet out of the water in my bubble baths.

I have been by a coyote. my hand has scars from where i had to punch her in the face as she lunged at me. i hit her right in the teeth, she got up to attack again and i hit her again. I was on a sidewalk on a military base in southern california, i was 16 y/o, 100 lbs. it was dusk-ish and out of no where she jumped out at me eye level and i hit. and kept hitting each time she repeated. she stopped jumping up to attack and began going after my feet so i had to start kicking. It's awful but i didn't stop until she stopped. i ran for help after that and when i came back to get her to the vet, she'd already left. i had to get a rabies shot.
my fear is mice and spiders. and of losing our home. i have a bad phobia of clowns.~~ Missy ~~

MISSY~~~~~~WHAT AN AWFUL STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
My phobias? They are seriously weird and unexaplainable, but here goes:
I am seriously, SERIOUSLY afraid of being in: IMAX theaters, planatariums, aquariums, simulated amusement rides (you know, the kind that you are right up against and huge screen ~ if you've ever been on California Adventure.....I had my eyes shut just about the whole time......not the kind of ride that you are "supposed to be afaid in).
My phobias are really weird, I know. Somehow it has something to do with the "biggness" of all these things terrifying me. I am also really freaked out when I am out and I can see what seems like forever on the horizon. I have more examples of this, but this gives you the "gist" of it.
oh, when I say that I am seriously afraid of these things, that actually means, I don;t ever EVER go into those places....in fact, since I first started typing this post, my heart rate has gone way up......*deep breath*Last edited by IntlMom; 07-25-2008 at 10:01 AM. Reason: more info

My phobias are elevators and bridges. It has nothing to do with heights, I am fine with heights.
Elevators aren't so bad anymore, when I was in college, my dorm room was on the 6th floor, so I was stuck taking the elevator often when I was running late, so that helped me over the hurdle, but I still don't like them!
I know exactly why I have fears of both. When I was in gradeschool, I got stuck in an elevator for 5 hours. In the scheme of things, not that bad...but when your little, it felt like forever and I was scared to death.
Bridges. My brother fell off of a bridge when he was younger, luckily it wasn't super high (but it was high enough) and he wasn't injured. Then he almost fell off another bridge, but my dad caught him by the back of the shirt. I still have this vision of him dangling off the side with my dad holding the back of his shirt. Had he fallen off of that bridge, he most likely would have died. So needless to say, my kids are not allowed on bridges, much at all!
They are true phobias too. When I have to go over a bridge or get in an elevator, my blood pressure rises, I have a hard time breathing, etc. It's no fun!

LOL! Missy, you are one tough girl! And good hearted!
I don't think many people would have thought to come back and see how the coyote was, much less think about taking her to the vet!
Just.......WOW!

Heights is the biggest one. It's sort of weird though, 2nd story of the mall - I walk right along the store entrances. When I was in 8th grade I went on a school trip to NYC, we went to the top of the World Trade Center and Empire State Building. If I remember correctly I was terrified at the top of the Trade Center, it was fully glassed in. At the top of the Empire State Building it had brick up to just below my chest. I looked over. I think maybe it has something to do with being able to see down at my feet, but I'm not sure.
It's not good I literally panic, shake, sweat, etc. Drives my DH crazy because he's a bit of an adrenaline junkie. He dragged me on the Superman Ride at Six Flags America, I thought I would die. It was something like a 200 ft. drop at 70 mph. Definitely not my idea of fun.
I also am afraid of snakes, but it's not as bad as heights.

I have a fear of SNAKES! When I see one, I have a fit! I run, jump up on things, scream, etc. I have a panic attack!! I do not care if it is just a little, bitty, tiny grass snake. I am not going near it! They scare me to death.
I am sure if I were around bats that I would panic too. I have never seen one fly except at the zoo in the bat cages. That is close enough. If I thought for a second they could have gotten out, I would have never been there.~*Michelle*~

Thinking about it, I have more phobias than I realized.
I have a serious fear of heights; I can't even get close to a railing on a stair or escalator without freaking out. I guess that's why God made me only 4 ft 11 in tall!
I am deathly afraid of snakes. I've been bitten by a king snake in my sister's closet; struck at by a rattler in the garden when I was a teenager; stepped on a moccasin on the cellar stairs while carrying laundry down; and I distinctly remember my brother terrorizing me with a writhing, recently killed, gross, utterly terrifying 6 foot plus long snake that he was dangling from his outstretched hand. He had just about cut the thing's head off but he was holding it in front of me in such a way that I couldn't see it was dead. I went hysterical on him. Heck, the thoughts of that thing make me want to go hysterical again!
I don't do spiders or cockroaches of any size. DH or DS have to dispatch any of those that are around. I'll launch books and large boots at them from a distance. DH still laughs about the time that I woke him up hollering in a hotel room because there were roaches that came out while I was using the facilities. When he came in to check on things, I was standing on the toilet and fast stepping from one foot to another because I had NOT gotten a chance to actually use the toilet.
I'm not too fond of other creepy crawlies, either. However, I can handle them unless they bite or sting me. I have reactions to most bites or stings. Geez, it's a wonder I've survived living in the country.
I also have a fear of the car door opening on me while going down the road. I almost fell out of our station wagon when I was little.Last edited by IamBlessed; 07-25-2008 at 11:32 AM.

Missy-you are one tough chick-Wow!!!
My phobia is tigers....and that whole thing with the boys being attacked by one at the zoo, has just intensified it.
When I am totally stressed out-I will always have the "tiger" dream. I am on the Maine Turnpike, my car breaks down and out of nowhere a tiger starts chasing me....really, really strange I know!
