What the ?
Well I get home last night after a very long day. Hubby starts saying "you got a ticket". "What, I did not", what are you talking about?. Well I have a ticket in my name for driving in the car-pool lane for $60, I look at the plate number and realize something is not right. We donated a vehicle to Cars 4 Kids last summer, and this is the plate number. "What the
is this and how did it happen? I signed the title over to them when they picked up the car and the tags on that vehicle were nearly up, so someone had to have replace them since then. Good grief another mess to clean up, looks like a long saturday at DMV, just what I wanted to do on my day off. DH is calling Cars 4 Kids today, wouldn't want to be on the other side of that phone. I worried about it last night, what if they run someone over or something and that thing is still in my name?.
Sorry for the Rant, just had to get it off my chest.Last edited by suzysaver; 07-25-2008 at 12:35 PM.

Ohhh dear.
When you donate a car, you're supposed to take the tags off and return them to the DMV in MD. Not sure about in your state..If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Same here. You donate your car, you have to turn in the plates yourself to the DMV. Good luck, hope it all works out.

Same here. If you don't return or transfer the plates, you're still paying taxes.
Good luck! What a kick in the pants after doing something good.

Wow, here in PA if you sell or donate a car you have to return the plates... I smell something fishy here.

in MD there are HUGE fines and i mean HUGE. for not returning plates and not cancelling the insurance on it, so you may want to make sure there are none of those where you live.
sorry for your hassle

Hope your able to get it cleared up.
We have donated 2 vehicles over the years and have always left the plates on them.
I have no idea what the law is here about it.

Suzysaver.. You must be north maybe near Salem or Portland, because we don't have carpool lanes in Eugene... Howdy neighbor...
We have sold many cars here in Oregon, and we have never taken the plates off either.. I don't think I have ever seen someone do that here (and I have seen many cars sold and bought from second parties)... Curious.. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon with no other problems.
Edit to add:
I just checked our state DMV site and it says that if you sell or donate a car all you have to do is inform them either in writing(there is a form to fill out online), or over the phone within 10 days of doing so.... It does not state that we need to turn in the license plate... Good to know---I thought that DH may have been doing something wrong all these years... Good luck. I would assume you have some sort of paperwork showing transfer of ownership with a date. I would think a judge would except that. If the judges gives you a hard time in court, play up that it was a donation, and that all you were trying to do was help somebody less fortunate.

That is what I was going to say. Mail it in with a copy of the documentation that you donated. They should, in theory, just take it off your record. But, you know, it is the government.

DITTO on the plate return in Mass.
HUGE trouble. The plate police come after you.
Just right a letter and send it certified return receipt requested with a copy to the donation place. Or else the will completely deny that they have you on camera at the DMV on Saturday July 26, 2008.
Trust me on that one. BTDT
