Thumbs down Any other Oil Heaters out there?

How is your oil heat budget plan looking? Last year mine was 178/mo. The year before was 231/mo. I was expecting this years to be around 250, but when I got the letter yesterday from the oil company it was.......

    $375/mo.

Yes, you read that right. $375/mo.

I guess we wont be on the budget plan this year.

How can anyone afford to heat their home for that much per month? We only have a 1500sf house too!

Yikes! That hurts. We have oil now, but are saving up money to switch to gas. We have to have a line brought to our house plus the new furnace so it isn't going to be cheap!

I have oil heat-uggh!!! I am praying for a mild winter. Will keep the house at 60 degrees and use some space heaters for "spot" heating. My house is only 1300 sq ft and we did put in all new windows so that should help.
So sorry you had such a big jump.

I have a 550 gal tank, I filled it the beginning sept. last year, and have not filled it again, I'm thinking I should run out any day, but I keep hoping the price will come down. I know it probably won't, but if what I have lasts till the end of August, I'll just fill it. Right now, we are just heating water with it. I just can't get it through my head that it will cost over 2,000.00 to fill our oil tank. You can be sure the heat won't be going on here till late November or early December, if possible. I can't help but think about the elderly and very low income people here in the northeast, where at some point during the winter you need heat. What will they do?

We heat with both oil & wood. I'm starting off with a full tank of oil (last filled in March) and a nice pile of wood. I'm going to call the oil co. soon and get off automatic oil delivery. I want to be in charge of when I get oil and will shop around for price. My days of sticking with one company are over.
Plan to not use more than one tank of oil this heating season. Glad we have a smaller house and a good wood burning fireplace with an insert.
Good luck my oil dependent friends.
Just called, off of auto delivery.

I just interviewed for a part time weekend job to help pay off the cc's and put money aside to buy an insert for the fp. I hope to have one in before december...

I have oil heat and goodness, I am scared! Usually I only fill the tank up 2 times per year.... yep 2 times!

We limit showers that's for sure and run the dishwasher when FULL only... we use cold water to brush our teeth, etc..

We have a huge old house and oil is going to kill us financially this year. We do have an insert in the fireplace that will heat the downstairs. Might just have to turn off the heat and water upstairs and sleep in livingroom if it gets too bad! I was told it cost $1300.00 to fill a tank....last year I paid $700!! UGH!!!
