Weird ?...Is anyone ordained?
~I'm considering becoming ordained so I can officiate my sister's marriage. It seems simple (and free!) but I'm wondering if it will cause any tax difficulties? How about social difficulties? Anybody wanna share their experience?~

Sounds fun. Can't hurt to learn something new. I know NOTHING about this, BTW! Good luck!

Ordained? as in priesthood?
Or as in a justice of the peace?
My aunt is a JP and... she marries us.
It was nice to have someone we know

I know that at my cousin's wedding, his wife had her uncle marry them. He was only allowed to do it for that one day, so it must have been some kind of temporary thing you can look into.

A very good friend did this for hubby and I. Then, he continued performing weddings afterwards because he really enjoyed it. Folks only know if you tell them, so I can't see any social implications and you aren't working as a minister so I don't see any tax implications.
Have fun!

I am. No problems. I don't go around throwing it out as a conversational ice-breaker. Until now maybe 5 people knew. No tax problems because I'm not working, taking donations etc.

I thought ordaining is what churches do.
My father is an ordained minister ordained by a church. He had to file papers as an ordained minister to marry people but if he hadn't wanted to marry people he could have not filed papers to do so but would still be and ordained minister who pastor's churches.
My husband is also an ordained deacon ordained by our church but only as a deacon in the church.

~Well, Biblically speaking, every person who is a Christian is THE church and ordained by God. Most Pastors are legally ordained through their denomination because they've chosen to agree and teach the set of beliefs that denomination holds. Although a person can be ordained online as anything from a Reverend to a Deacon, I would be legally ordained as a Minister of Marriage through a non-denominational Christian ministry.~
