I Hate Ebay! Helllp!!
okay, it has been since last fall that I sold some stuff on Ebay.
Today, I go to list some stuff and now it appears that they are not giving me a choice anymore on how I would like to be paid. I hate using Paypal...#1. it cuts into what little profit that I would make & 2. Its a pain in the butt when I have funds in the Paypal account & someone wants to order something else off of Ebay - wipes it out b4 I get a chance to transfer the funds to the savings account.
Anyway - where i have been able to choose to be paid by check or money order,it appears that the only option for payment is through Paypal - anyone else having problems? Input desperately needed. Have any of you used an alternative to Ebay & have you been successful?

I sold my dads motorcycle on ebay two weeks ago. I was able to choose check, money order, cashiers check or paypal to be paid.
It allowed me the same seller options as it used to. But since I have not used it in so long apparently the new policy is they auto deduct your sellers fees from the acct you have on file. Which really screwed me this week. I used to just make one time payments. Now they take it out of thier own accord.
That made me angry.
There should be an option box when you list something that says accepted payment methods. Take away paypal and allow only checks or money orders if that is what you like."That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

You should also be able to choose the other options aka check, money order, etc. Also I've noticed that some people are putting in their listing that "at this time they are no longer taking Paypal due to problems or high fees etc. and that they only accept cashier checks, money orders or checks. They put it in bold big letters so as not to confuse people.

The rules have changed for Paypal & Ebay recently.
-Sellers can no longer leave negative feedback for bidders, regardless of the bidder's behavior. Sellers can only leave positive feedback for bidders. Bidders, however, can leave whatever feedback they want.
-New sellers can no longer list without accepting Paypal. After a certain amount of time/listings, that restriction is lifted. Though you can offer to accept other methods of payment, you are required to list Paypal as one of them.
Directly from Ebay:
If you try to list as mentioned above, saying you won't accept Paypal, Ebay MAY remove your listing. (Trust me, I tried it.) This restriction does not affect all listing categories, but I can't say for sure which ones it does or doesn't.Effective March 2008, sellers may be required to offer PayPal or a merchant credit card as one of the payment methods for a specific listing.
Again, from Ebay:
I hope this helps clear up any confusion - I'm not crazy about the new policies myself, but Ebay is my only means of earning extra money right now, as I can't get a second job - I'd have no time with my kids at all.Misleading & Discouraging Payments
Sellers who state in their listing that they accept certain payment methods must not selectively offer those payment methods to buyers or discourage buyers from using those payment methods.
This means that sellers must always accept payment from buyers through the payment methods they have selected in their Payment Details section of their listing, including PayPal, and must not act in any way to discourage buyers from paying by these methods.
This policy is not only limited to communications made in listings, but also includes all correspondence between a seller and buyer that relates to an eBay transaction.
Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions including:
- Listing cancellation
- Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings
- Limits on account privileges
- Loss of PowerSeller status
- Account suspension
Also, regarding Paypal payments - listing certain items in certain categories that Paypal considers "high risk" for fraud or customer dissatisfaction will trigger Paypal to hold your money for up to 21 days - or until the customer indicates they have received and are satisfied with the item. (I think this may be due to the recent rash of fraudulent items - like fake Coach bags, etc.) If this happens, your money for the item you sold, including the shipping cost, is held by Paypal until the customer indicates they are satisifed.Last edited by suebeehoney; 07-28-2008 at 08:45 PM.

I have been seriously considering trying a few listings on Ecrater, just to see if they can give Ebay any competition at all. I've heard good things about them, but then I've also heard sales are slow there - but I think sales are slowing down everywhere due to the fuel prices, etc. I don't think it's an isolated thing.
