It worked!
Friday afternoon I started having what I expected to be a pimple come up on my face. It continued to swell, and Saturday actually had my whole sinus cavity aching and was giving me a head ache. I called my oldest sister - that's what they are for isn't it? She got on the internet and came up with a suggestion (repeated on several sites) to heat some milk to hot but not boiling, dunk a piece of bread in it, and apply it to the irritated spot. Ok, I had milk and bread so I tried it not expecting much. It immediately relieved the pain, and over the course of about a minute and a half reduced the swelling significantly. I repeated it before I went to bed. Yesterday it was still improving - without further applications of milky bread. Today it is almost gone. WOW! I have NO idea why that would work, but I'll remember it in the future. The web sites said it would work for boils and infected cuts also.

How long did you leave it on the spot? How milky was it? (running milk down your face or what?) How did you keep it there (just by holding it or what?)? I love these kinds of cures.

not long...
I dipped one wad (think Communion wafer) and held it while I dialed my mom on the phone and then changed it for another without even reheating the milk about a minute later. It loses heat pretty fast. I just held it against my face leaning over the lavatory and let it drip a few drips. I think if you were trying to use it someplace more awkward or wanted to keep it on longer, puttin it in place and then putting a washcloth or something against it to hold it in place and to keep it from dripping would be good. My mom says it is something in the starch that makes it work - much like a potato poultice (another one I'd never heard of).

My crazy grandmother ALWAYS made potato and onion poultices for wounds and cuts, and although she never used it on me, I did watch it draw infection and gunk from an infected hand on my dad. Amazing, those old wives' tales!

Wow thanks for the info... who would have known, huh? Such a neat, cheap and seems like a pretty fast remedy.

My grandmother made bread and milk poultices and tied them on my various boo-boos all through childhood. It's kind of good to know the old ways aren't totally lost, even on the internet.

My mom used to use a Milk & Bread Poultice all the time anytime we got an infection on our arms, legs etc. To this day she still uses them. They do work!

Did you use a specific kind of bread and what % of milkfat was in the milk used?
