Looking for a blessing everyday
This past Sunday our pastor made a remark during his sermon that I am trying to do. He said to look for a blessing everyday.
Monday- despite the 100 degree weather my husband (a/c tech) came home at 4:30 and had a good day.
Tuesday - I had to pick my stepson up from his mom's (last week of summer visitation for her) to be tutored. I ran into her at Wal-mart and she said that she got off work early so she could pick him up and save me a trip back across town.
Wednesday- went grocory shopping at Aldi. Budgeted $130.00 Spent $119.46. DD hospitalized for pain on right side- just observation. Blessing to come.
Thursday- DD came home. Not appendix!!!!! Cyst on right ovary hopefully dissolve on its own. Motrin for pain. Doing well!!!!!
Can't wait for Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I consider each and every day that I wake up to be a true blessing! And each and every day that I have with my family and friends too. Dh could go any day since he suffers from arterial spasms that can cause a heart attack. I give thanks to God that he is still with me. He has a birth defect and one of his main arteries to his heart is deformed.

Good for you! Years ago I kept a gratitude journal and I looked for at least three things in each day. It couldn't be the easy things such as kids, home, health... it had to be something specific to the day. I eventually increased my personal challenge to five things per day to make it even more meaningful. It changed my life. I had to retrain myself and actively go through each day looking for things. I no longer need to keep the journal because it is second nature now for me to see the blessings that surround me at all times.
A recent example was a trip to a local state park. We got the literature for the self guided hike and took off. One of the first stops was a small cemetary, very old with simple stones. A lot of children were buried there. The old me would have had a momentary heart clutch, a simple prayer of thanks, and then would have moved on w/o giving it much more thought. The new me however has experienced a twice daily gratitude.
The literature stated that many of the children died because of diseases that could have been prevented if they'd had access to toothbrushes! Now each and every morning and night as I goad my children into brushing their teeth I say a prayer of thanks for this simple but necessary tool.
I find this to be a frugal practice as well... its very easy to not feel the need for the latest and greatest iPhone when you find wonder in your toothbrush.
