What a weekend!
So this weekend we bought a house (still pinching myself). We looked at it Saturday afternoon, put an offer in Saturday night, and accepted a counter offer on Sunday. This house is EXACTLY what we were looking for, right down to the raspberries growing wild on the edge of the yard. The only thing it doesn't have are programmable thermostats and the laundry is in the basement. But other than that - it's an older house (1950) but they put a second floor on 5 years ago so everything is new - plumbing, electrical, new kitchen, 2 bathrooms, new furnace, new roof, septic system passes title 5 AND they are paying the sewer betterment so in the future we can hook up to town sewer for about $4k if we need to. Windows over the kitchen sink and in the bathroom. Huge closets. Small pantry. Partially finished basement. 1536 sq feet. Three bedrooms. Great neighborhood. A little more than we were planning on paying but can easily afford.
Then the emotional roller-coaster plunge - we had to put one of our cats to sleep on Monday. She had been losing weight, we took her in to the vets a month ago, she had lost 1.3lbs but blood-work came back ok. Took her in Monday because she had some nasty smelling drool, and she had lost another pound (she wasn't eating or grooming herself, either) and had advanced oral cancer - apparently a tumor on the back of her tongue had started to ooze fluid. She was 12 years old, and the vet said that none of the treatment options available were very good for her condition, so we put her to sleep.
So this whole week I've been so moody - sometimes I want to cry, sometimes I want to sing from the rooftops!Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

I'm very sorry about the cat.
As for programmable thermostats - that's a 15 minute installation job, so gratz on the house! If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Sorry to hear about your kitty, one of ours died about a week ago. I still miss him.
But congratulations on your new house!! Is it near schools for when your son gets old enough? Is it close to work? Close to where you like to shop?
Think of all the things you get to shop for now...lawnmower, snowblower, gardening supplies. The list goes on and on.On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.

I'm sorry for your loss. Pets are family, no doubt.
Your house sounds great. When I read the topper "what a weekend" I knew you were going to say that you bought a house! Had you looked at alot of houses?

Yeah, it wasn't a make or break detail, LOL.
Plus we can move the washer dryer upstairs, either into the 6 x 6 closet off the master bedroom (which is right against the bathroom) or in the upstairs bathroom. Which, seriously - the upstairs bathroom is the size of my current bedroom. DH and I are wondering if they weren't planning on some kind of whirlpool tub and ran out of money, the room is that big.
And since DH's grandmother recently passed away and they are selling her house, they offered to give us the snowblowers, rakes, shovels, etc. Not sure if it includes a lawnmower. But I'm hoping that will keep some of the costs down. We do have to buy a refrigerator since they are taking the one that's in the house - but my MIL offered to buy one as a housewarming present.

Aawww, I'm sorry about your kitty
I totally understand the emotional trauma of doing that....we've had to put down our 12 year old schnauzzer and our 12 year old cat. It's a terrible thing to have to do but honestly the most loving thing you can do in a situation like this.
Congrats on the house
I'm thrilled for you all. Enjoy the house happy vibes.

Wow...it has been a crazy week for you!
I'm so sorry about the loss of your kitty. I haven't had to suffer the loss of one of my pets yet, but they are getting up there in age and I just don't think there is any way to prepare for that.
Congratulations on your new house! I'm so happy for you guys! I know you have been preparing for this for a long time. How amazing for your family to have a home of your own!

Congrats on the house!!! I know how exciting that can be!
As for the laundry being in the basement? Yeah, we just moved into house about 3 months ago and we also have a basement laundry.
It took some getting used too, but now I'm almost liking it, did I just say that?
Simply because it doesn't make the house noisy when it runs, and it doesn't heat up the house when I'm running the dryer. I will say though when I need to
it's a small inconvience.
But like you, our house has everything else we were wanting, so it's kind of a trade off.
Soo, sooo, sooo sorry to hear about your cat.
Ours wasn't nearly as old as yours, but we also had to have our kitty put to sleep a few months back, it's a hard thing to do.
Allow yourself time to grieve though, so that way when you start the moving process you can then allow yourself to really get excited over your home.
I know how hard it is, not to let it overshadow your happiness though.Last edited by cheles2kids; 08-08-2008 at 07:27 AM.
