I Think My Neighbors Are Stealing My Paper
Today, AGAIN, I did not get my Sunday paper! This is about the 12th time in 4 months. I know the circulation dept must know my voice by now. The weird thing is, it's not every week, it's actually very random.
I don't know my neighbors very well. They just moved in about 6 months ago. But we never had any issues before this.
Of course I can't prove anything. Well, short of waking up at 5 am on a Sunday and peeking out my window to see what happens that is. (And I just can't see myself doing that!)
Just very frustrating! I mean, I've been getting home delivery for over a year now, my delivery guy hasn't changed, so.... And I hate thinking it could be my neighbor, but at this point I'm out of explanations.

That's too bad! If I were you, I'd try to catch them in action. I had a problem a few months back. For a week, it seemed like I wasn't getting my paper. Turns out, there was a substitute paper guy that evidently wasn't very good. They ended up just crediting my account with the missed papers.

Can you get the paper delivery person to put the paper in the mailbox?
Thats what we had to do because the neighbors dogs where always peeing on our paper if it was thrown on the ground.

Uuuuugh! Can you take them something like cookies and say "I was on baking frenzie and just wanted to share." Maybe your goodwill will make them feel guilty and stop if they are. Or, if they're not, you could make a new friend.

We paid an extra $5 and got a box from the newspaper that they put the paper in....it's like an open-ended mail box, and they even put it up. It was well worth it as the dogs in our neighborhood chew up everything.

Do you own or could you borrow a video camera or web cam to see what's happening? Set it up a few Saturday nights until your paper goes missing again and see what the deal is.

Ugh! We once had neighbors that did that. I think it was in retaliation for calling the police when they partied too late and too loud. Thank goodness they didn't stay there long. Maybe you can call your delivery man and arrange to have the paper put somewhere that they can't get to it.Good luck!

I saw on America's Funniest Videos a clip where the same thing was happening. The neighbor lady was stealing their paper, so they put a note in it saying "You are are being recorded stealing our paper", or something like that. The woman dropped the paper like a hot potato and headed back into her house.

I was thinking the same thing about catching them on video. If you have one, I would set it up to record between the time the paper is tossed and the time you get up in the morning. Are there any dogs in your area that could be taking it off as well?

well that sucks...I'd try and catch them too. I despise thieves more than just about anyone on the planet.
Before we moved to the country, we lived in some real ghetto neighborhood by the beach. We had a little punk neighbor kid at our old apartment that would steal...get this...cigarette butts. We had an old coffee can that we used to empty the ashtray into, we noticed the can kept disappearing, the whole can...gone. At the time my gf was my next door neighbor and this was on her back patio (we lived in townhomes with 4 units per building).
My little backyard was fenced in but hers wasnt. So one day I was out in my backyard working on the Harley and I decided to go inside, I shut off the radio outside and walked in the house but realized I forgot something outside. So I go back out and I see someone on the other side of my fence in my gf's yard, she was st work, So I look through the fence and theres this kid on her back porch.
I yell "what are you doing?" and he backs up against the wall like I cant see him LOL..So I run out of my gate and go over and there he is trying to just casually walk away. So I yell at him again and ask him WTF he is doing on my GF porch. He stops and I ask him again and he opens his hand and theres like 5-6 cigarette butts in his hand. SO I say..."first of all, thats just disgusting, you're stealing other peoples cigarette butts? second of all if I see you anywhere near her place or mine again, first I'm gonna lay a beatin on ya then I'll have the cops here" he says and I quote "Oh dog, my bad..."
we nicknamed him Jerone...as in get yer own cigarettes. This kid was always stealing something. a few weeks later he broke into another neighbors place,me and all my other neighbors know it was him because he busted out the patio door window and stole
a playstation and a big jar of change. the cost to replace the window was worth more than the change and the PS2.
the kid actually had the nerve to come out and stand there acting stunned while the neighbor is telling me what happened.
We moved not long after that so I dont know what ever happened or if he got busted for the robbery.
Oh and before that my other neighbor caught this kid in his truck at 4am trying to steal cigarettes and the stereo...he came out from work, kid was in the truck but took off running. He said he knows it was him but he couldnt prove it.
I actually gave the neighbors my newspaper..my gf went and did the free trail and then didnt cancel it so we got it everyday, my neighbor asked if i mind if they take it and I said no, it's just cluttering my driveway anyway.Last edited by Quadcam; 08-10-2008 at 08:45 PM.

Oh boy...I'd be up watching in the morning. I'd want to be able to stick my head out the door and yell "excuse me, you seem to be lost"
