How often is your t.v. on?
It used to be everyday I would have the t.v. on. Sometimes watching, sometimes just for background noise. DH decided one Sunday-nothing to do with religion, just so happened on a Sunday-to go with ours turned off. We did our normal routines. Church, came home and fixedand ate lunch, he sat and read the paper, napped, ate junk food, walked....... We felt more rested without the noise. The kids did without too.
Now, there are days that the t.v. isn't on at all until the weather at night. And I don't feel as tired. Could the t.v. and feeling tired be connected?????? I still go about my normal routines. Helping DH in office, cleaning, cooking, kids, etc.
What about ya'll?

I agree totally that TV makes you lethargic. Somehow there is a connection!
With the kids during the day, we have TV free days, where we don't turn on the TV in the morning and it doesn't go on until DH gets home to watch the news. We all get so much more accomplished on those days.
If it were up to me, the TV's would be sold off and the cable would be cancelled, but if I did that...there would be an uproar in our house!

Most days we have about an hour in the morning and another in the afternoon, then 1-2 hours in the evening after supper. But, we also have days where the tv doesn't go on until dh gets home and turns it on and other days where we waste the day away with (usually when extreme weather prevents us from getting out first thing in the morning... its all downhill if we don't start off right).
Incidentally the tv used to be on all the time, even if it was just one of the XM music stations for background noise. Since we have it on less our electric bill has dropped significantly.

We watch a couple of hours in the evening. We watch the news and a couple of HGTV programs: Designed to Sell and (can't think of the name....) a show about folks looking for a new home (argh.... a senior moment). That's it. We are just so busy all day that there's no time to watch. Plus.... we keep the TV in the basement, so it's a deliberate walk down there to watch.

During vacation/summer, it starts at 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. 12noon - 2:00 pm is quiet time. Then it is on again from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm - most of the time just for background noise for the kids who are playing anyway.
My tv time is from 9:30 pm - 10:00 pm and then I'll be asleep.

~The kids watch between 30-120 minutes of videos every day on their tv. I watch an episode of tv(Netflix)during lunch(30-60 minutes). Then DH and I usually watch(he watches and I do busy work)2-4 hours before bed. We rarely watch broadcast tv. Mostly we view our dvd's and Netflix rentals. I'm so glad we don't have cable because I'd be absolutely addicted to having it on. I can't resist documentaries and old movies. I actually find my tv watching to be invigorating since it's worked into my routine as my down time. But having it on all day would be overstimulating and that would drain me.~

Just like Holly my TV is on all the time and it also helps me somewhat to get through the day.I very often am tired and cranky and I feel the tv is a big problem for me. First of all, the news is so graphic nowadays. There also is never anything decent on unless it's an old movie. It really is very depressing and also very exspensive to pay for it. My husband and son have to have the sports channels or I too would like to cancel it. The problem is then I would be home alone with my thoughts all day long. I already am up all night long worrying about stuff. I wish we could start some type of tv free forum. I think it would be helpful to alot of people.

About 10 years ago, we became so disgusted with what was on regular t.v. that we stopped watching the prime time stuff. Then we decided to get satellite, thinking that we could limit our viewing to family friendly channels...well, after awhile, the commercials between the "family friendly" shows (that were used to promote the other channels) became unacceptable - so, we cancelled the satellite. The only thing that our t.v. is used for now are dvds of our choice & the kids video games. The t.v. is usually off during the day & on for a few hours in the evening.....If it was just me, I would do away with the t.v. altogether.

TV use in this house used to be a whole lot worse than it is now. I can turn off the TV and call it a "TV day off" and while the kids may protest about it for five minutes", they always end up finding something to do.
It's never on after the kids go to bed unless we have something special we want to watch. UFC 87 was on PPV the other night and we got it. It was so worth it.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

We are a tv free family (except the occassional dvd). Love it. I would never go back to having cable or satellite. Its a personal choice for every family but for mine I have seen nothing but positive changes for us since we "killed" our television!

When I am watching kids, it usually only goes on during maybe an hour in the morning..(something educational to go along with what we are doing) then off and back on for 30 min before nap (like a reward) then probably back on if there is a special movie. After 6 then my kids and husband usually watch until about 10. I only watch if there is one of my shows..husband can watch 15 shows at once, in the middle and God help if the remote is missing...lol

I must be the black sheep. My tv is on most times I am awake and home.
I go to bed usually 2am. I get up usually 10ish. Tv comes on the Weather Channel. (gotta know if any hurricanes or tropicals are coming our way---also, dh and my job both prettymuch stop when it rains.) I work on a pier..he is an outside bouncer. So rain= no customers=no money.
Aside from the weather...I watch House, MD if it is on. And the history and the learning channel.
But alot of times it is just for background noise."That which does not kill us makes us stronger."
