That Wonderful Smoky Bacon Candy
Have you ever thought about something from your childhood.... something that you are almost positive existed, but now you find it never mentioned and others look at you strangely when you talk about it?
For me, it's a candy that I think I enjoyed back in the 1950s. Now, I have a really active imagination, but this seems like a very real memory. The candy looked like a strip of bacon and was sweet and bacon flavored and smoky. (yeah, I know.... strange combo). In a way, it looked sort of like those brown/pink/white coconut strip candies.
When we travel, I always hunt up candy stores and look for it, but I have never found it. I have done internet searches and still nothing.
So.... two requests:
1. Did this candy really exist? What was it called? Is it still available anywhere?
2. Has something like this ever happened to you? Where you question your own memory?

I forgot to mention that this particular candy has no chocolate, and as far I remember, didn't even have real bacon or pork in it. If you search the internet, you'll find incredible entries about bacon candy, including gummy bacon, and bacon cotton candy, and chocolate covered bacon...... YUCK!
But none of them are what I am looking for. My memory of the candy in question is that it seemed to be rather a stereotype of a slice of bacon.
Can you give me any help?Spiritual:

Huh... there are all sorts of weird candies out there and a lot of old candy companies that no longer make that candy or went out of business.
Personally i grew up eating a lot of older candies .. because we had a candy land in my home town ( mainly because it was a farming community and a lot of the old timers went there and bought old candies so they were well stocked ) Peanut butter Kisses, mary Janes, Niknkip, wax lips( which its almost impossible to find anymore GRRRR ) , Lipstick candies, candy cigs, DRK licorice of any kind ( more it tasted like black strap the better YUM ) but there were also a lot of hot and savory candies as well .. i tried them all over the years *lol*
I know not any help, but keep looking .. heck maybe try making some never know your own thoughts might be a cash trove there *G*

You suckered me into Google..... oh my how many bacon candies are out there!
I like the maple bacon lollipops, they look enjoyable. I also love the http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/bacon1.html candied bacon. A local restaurant serves this on their house salad and it really is a treat. I might need to save this idea for the pumpkin party. Its a little freakish to think about candied bacon.... just the type of food I serve. MwahahhahahaThe Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

OK guys! I warned ya....... there are a lot of weird bacon candies out there! But beggin' strips? Oh well, it's the dog days of summer.
qtkitty: I remember a lot of those old candies you mentioned. Another one to put on the list is wax bottles. They would have a tiny amount of a sweet colored liquid in them. We would pop them in our mouths, and chew the wax after the liquid was gone.
I also liked Holloway All Day Suckers. Only they didn't last all day....
The little village up the road had a tiny general store with a glass case of penny candy. If I had a penny, I'd stand there and agonize over which one to choose. Often it was a root beer barrell. And at Halloween, the store keeper opened the doors and gave us our choice of any one item from the candy case.
I've strayed from the bacon candy.
So let's make this thread do the following:
1. Bacon candy
OR
2. Nostalgic candies from your childhood
OR
3. Other items you think that you remember, but are not sure of (song or poem quotes, toys, foods.......)

Yes I do remember the wax lips and bottles. Although I never found any enjoyment eating wax. My grandmother always had the jellied spearmint leaves, jellied orange slices, or those orange peanut shaped candies. Oh yea and those mints with some type of jelly in the middle. Me, personally, I would go for anything with chocolate.
There is supposed to some candy shop in NYC that has a lot of the old candies. It is run by some fashion designers daughter. You might want to try a websearch for it.
Hope you find it. And yes I thought of the dog treats also. Sorry. LOL

My very favorite was Russell Stover anise candy. Hard red candies that tastes like licorice. We have one of those fancy vintage candy stores here and they don't have it. I know you used to be able to order it online, but the shipping was terrible.
Used to have it at my Grandma's house....I loved that stuff.Stinkbug
