Our T.V. blew up!!
...literally!!...Wednesday night dh and I were watching our favorite show"Corner Gas", and the picture went concave and the colors went to red yellow and green...I thought its the dish so I switched channels and , no it was the T.V....It was a large screen projection dinosaur...So dh shuts it off and turns it back on and we hear a very loud BOOM, and start smelling electrical parts burning!!!!
It was totally dead!!!...Its 7 years old...so we went last night and ordered anew 50 inch LCD...OUCH!!!!...Last thing we wanted to have to do...I guess my teardrop camper will be waiting awhile!!!

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Ouch.
Imagine being able to just order a 50-inch LCD screen on the fly. Probably the least frugal post I've seen here in a while. I actually expected the story to end with, "TV died, so we took up knitting."

Yeah our TV went and we went with a 37 inch LCD...because it was on sale. Our previous (which is why I'll never buy a Phillips again) only lasted three years. I even thought that 37 inches was too big for a TV, but we needed one that wouldn't go outdated after a few years.
Welcome to our Best Buy dilemma! I hope you guys bought with cash too.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

Just want to say Thanks to Scottvee and Handymom for calling me on this post...It is a very unfrugal post!!....I didn't want to buy the thing right away, but dh won out...I certainly didn't want to spend so much and finance it to boot either....Now we are even deeper in debt..That is why I am here, to be inspired...any way Thank you !!

Yikes, sorry for your luck. That is awful that it is only 7 years old. Whatever happened to things lasting for decades???

lol, We were just griping about this the other day! Our computer monitor took a dump, it was only 3 years old! Real nice fancy flat panel, flat screen, new and improved blah, blah!!
I was bitching because the kids have dinosaur monitors and they are 11 and 12 years old, the monitors that is! But they are still working great!
So, I got onto craigslist.com for my area and got a regular old monitor that was not 1" thick, for $10!! I thought, you know I would rather pay $10 for a BIG monitor that lasts than $260. for a pretty little petite thing that takes a dump so quickly!!Proud wife to Randy

That sounds like the TV we just had go .. sort of ... it went to a thin line and wouldn't come out.. so we could watch one line of pixilation across the tv if we wanted *lol* We had bought the thing less then a year ago from our landlord for $75 worth of work ( which is what he would have paid us ) Because our other TV was switching off whenever it decided to had no remote and no universal remote works with it because its a combo tv vcr.
So now we are back to our old Tv til we can get a new one. Joe doesn't like it because you have to go turn it on and off or change the volume. But a new cheap tv is $200 new.... ACKLast edited by qtkitty; 08-19-2008 at 06:25 AM.
