Woohoo! Free Bussing This Year!!
Hi all -
I've been off the site for a few days, glad to be back!

I just found out that our school is offering FREE bussing this year! To most, that may sound unusualy - isn't all bussing free? No, it's not - trust me. We live in a small rural community, and my kids attend a charter school (smaller class sizes, more individual attention, etc.) Not being a "public school", they don't have their own buses. If you wanted your kids bussed, you had to pay $1.50 per ride, per child ($3.00 per day per child) to the county public transit.
A grant was approved to have the school pay for bussing, so it's free this year! I have two kids riding the bus, and I was only having them ride it after school, since I work only 7 miles from the school, so I was dropping them off in the mornings. But trust me, that $15 was hard to come by some weeks.
So I'm doing the happy dance today, knowing that I can have them bussed both ways if I want, saving myself even more money on gas and more time in the mornings. It just depends on how early they pick them up as to whether I'll have them ride in the morning or not. I'm not pulling them out of bed at 5:30 a.m. just to catch the bus.

Who pays for the grant?
Wish it all wasn't so expensive.:girlsigh: Enjoy your savings.

Darlene -
I haven't found out yet where the grant came from, but I'm checking into it. At this point, I'm just happy I don't have to pay for bussing anymore!

So true, leezza! I was really worried about how I was going to come up with the cost of the semester pass (which ends up being cheaper than paying week by week, but is a significant sum to come up with all at once!)....so this is a HUGE relief.
