Default The past week has been hectic...

When it rains it pours or so they say, hopefully the sun will start shining soon...

It's been pretty hectic around here lately...I had to force my dad to go to the hospital last Wednesday and they ended up keeping him...diagnosis atrial fibrillation (upper right hand chamber was filled with blood and his heart was just quivering, causing an irregular heartbeat hence the blood in the chamber), pulmonary embolism (blood clot in his lung) and a blood sugar of 588!!!! He was in CCU for a few days, a regular room for 24 hrs. and then they sent him home...since he refused to wait around for a test he needed to have done (you'd think he'd have a little patience after 70 years wouldn't you?).

Any how I picked him up from the hospital Saturday, took him back over to my niece's house and got him settled in. Sunday morning I went over to check on him and he took medication he wasn't supposed to take, both of his feet are swelling up like no other and I am pretty much at my wits end. I took him to have his bloodwork done yesterday and I managed to get him an appointment with his doctor for Thursday afternoon, hopefully he will do what he is supposed to do between now & then! Between him, my son and my hubby I am not sure who will drive me over the edge the quickest!!!

If he weren't my dad, weren't 70 and I wouldn't go to jail for elder abuse I'd kick his butt!!!!

yikes! You have had a tough time of it. It's a darn good thing you made him go to the hospital.

I hope your dad starts feeling better soon. saying prayers.

Hope your Dad stops being stubborn, impatient and gets better about taking care of himself. Hang in there!

Oh my lord, I know exactly how that is...my dad is 80 and I think he gets grumpier and more impatient with every passing day...tell your neice to keep an eye on his breathing...if it becomes laboured, he needs to go back to the hospital to check for COPD...my mom had it and all the same symptoms (although he might win the prize for highest blood sugar!!)...as my dad says "getting old isn't for cissies", and as I say "taking of you isn't either!"

Hope things work out okay...take care!

Thank you everyone!!! He's on oxygen already, but I think that his breathing problems were really related to his heart/lung issues. Once they got his blood thinned and got the heart pumping properly his breathing improved dramatically. Problem is once you use oxygen over a few months I think your body ends up needing it...the additional I mean.

I have to take him to the docs tomorrow, so we will see how that goes...although I'm not holding my breath...the week before I took him in he walked out of his appt and told them to shove their office you know where. This time I'm going with him, so he'd better behave or he may end up pushing his oxygen tank back to where he's staying and seeings how he can only walk maybe 25 feet at a time it'd be a long trip....
