Default About ready to give up

I have just about had it. It seems that no matter how hard we try to limit or end expenses, they just keep rising. We were doing really well and then in the course of three weeks we spent another $6000 for much needed home repairs. Didn't have the money so had to put it on credit cards. I swear it feels like we are being punished for trying to be frugal. Everytime we take a step forward, we slide back 6. So frustrated right now. I have to rework the entire budget and it will take us another year to be debt free. Ugg! I feel like saying forget it and just giving up.

May I ask, what kind of much needed home repairs?
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I've been there~ done that so I know exactly what you mean. What always kept me going is thinking how much worse off we would be in 5 years if we just gave up. You can do it!!!

Yeah, plumbing emergencies are genuine emergencies. I'm sorry that happened, but consider this...

... If you hadn't already been on the plan, how much worse off would you be now after the plumbing emergency than you are now?

Hang in there - you know you're doing the right thing. This is a setback - life throws those at us - but you keep on moving forward and you will get there!

Plumbing repairs definitely are a necessity...I understand your frustration, but it too will pass. Keep plugging away and you will get to where you want to be.

I agree with this line of thought completely. While I am sitting here pinching my pennies ... really wanting to stop off at Starbucks but reminding myself that I shouldn't ...

Needless to say, the last time my car broke down and I had the money to fix it ... that was a WHOLE lot better than a skinny soy caramel latte over ice.

    Keep your chin up!

Wow, that's a lot of plumbing. Seriously though, if you let that defeat you...you let an expensive plumbing repair become the impassible obstacle in your path towards your goals, you've taken your eyes off the goal.

Football coaches use this all the time...focus on that endzone, don't focus on the other players coming at you on the other team. When confronted, you'll do what's necessary to get by them, and then continue running towards that touchdown. If you're looking at your obstacles, you've taken your eyes off the goal.

Blow past this, shrug it off, and keep on keepin' on. Keep bashing "Murphy" in the face and he'll leave.
