Default DS#2's tires slashed story- court date held FINALLY!

Lady_V's post reminded me to tell you the update. I know some of you who have been around a while remember the post of DS#2 having all 4 of his tires slashed last summer. Not only was our car vandalized, but there were several other vehicles with broken windshields, the church windows were broken, a cemetery vandalized, a post office vandalized , and 2 schools with stolen items. All the items happened within a 2 day crime spree by some teens in our area that resulted in $272,000 worth of damage. The part that bothered me the most was that one was DS#2's good friend. Well, they finally had their day in court. They were given 10 years adjudicated probation, $27,000 fine, 90 days in jail (work release), community service and were ordered to pay $272,000 in restitution. I somehow came to forgive the friend of DS#2. When he was finally allowed to return to school, I told DS to be his friend because he was going to need good friends. DS and him are friends again and I hope that he has learned a valuable lesson. The parents of DS's friend have contacted us and apologized and offered to pay for the tires. DH and I discussed it and instead of paying for our tires, which were already paid for by us last year, we told them not to worry about it. We just want to give him one more chance and hope he makes the right choice this time. As for the others, I am not sure I have forgiven them yet. I can't tell you why I chose to forgive one, but not the others. Maybe it is because I saw him grow up and know what a great citizen he can be. Anyway, his parents are going to pay for the tires, but we will be the last person on the list. I told them to make us last and take care of everyone else first. They are really a wonderful family and do a lot for the community, so it really did shock me that one of the culprits was their child. I am sure it shocked them too because I know they did not raise him that way. We see each other quite often are will still be on good terms. I will be praying that all 4 of the culprits take this second chance they were given and do something good with it.

Crime does not pay!! Eventually you will get caught!!

Absolutely amazing the damage 4 kids can cause.

I am glad you were able to forgive your ds's friend. He has enough people against him right now. Like you, I hope they have seen the problems they caused, and I hope their parents hold THEM responsible for paying back over 1/4 million dollars.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

You say the kids got 10 years "adjudicated probation?" Is there any difference between regular probation and that?

If they complete all the requirements of the sentencing, then in 10 years it will be completely wiped clean from their records otherwise the felony would always be on there. They really caught a break with that one.
