feeling fortunate!
With Gustav getting ready to hit the Gulf Coast, I got to thinking about how lucky I am to live where I do. We're in upstate NY. We don't get hurricanes (though we have gotten rain from them on occassion - 1972 was the last major flooding from one), we've only had 2 tornadoes that I can remember. We have pretty moderate temperatures. It's really not too hot in the summer, and not too cold in the winter. We don't get a whole lot of snow in the winter either. Really it is a great area to live because of the lack of weather extremes.
What does everyone like about the weather where they live? Pros and cons?
Also, made me think about being prepared for an emergency. I am definitely not prepared. I need to get some water in some bottles and put in basement. We have some kerosene in a jug, but it's kind old. Does anyone know if we can still use it after 2 years?
Are you prepared for an emergency? Would you be able to last a week with no power?
PS. Prayers for everyone that is in the Gulf Coast and may be affected by the hurricane.Last edited by lisettelovebug; 08-31-2008 at 12:43 AM. Reason: wanted to add more

oh, that is a good question!! I know that we aren't prepared at all, but I know where everything is, so it would only take me about 15 minutes to get everything all together!! We do have emergency kits in our cars for the winter season!! I also always have extra diapers and clothing in our cars for the winter season too!!

We definitely don't worry about any hurricanes here in central Ohio. We do get at least one good snow storm during the winter. My mother lives in Florida and it is amazing the stories she tells me about stocking up and the stores running out of supplies.

I live in Ca we have earthquakes. Which don't bother me. I don't know if I want to live in a place that has huricanes, tornados, or too much snow. It does get too hot here sometimes. As far as being ready for a disaster. I'm not.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

I am in the Northeast where we can get a lot of snow, but nothing else really-although this summer we had two tornado warnings. I feel very fortunate as well.

I am in the northeast also and do like the change in seasons. The occasional tonado warnings can be unnerving, but am greatful to have pretty much predictable weather.
