I have to admit I am a history buff. About two years ago I found a site that was looking for someone to travel around different counties in the state and write down all the information on the headstones in the old cemeteries. I quickly said I would be more than willing to do the job for them, and set out to gather all the information I could get on these old, old cemeteries. I recorded word for word what was written on them, taking one at a time. I have to admit at times I was almost overwhelmed with the amount of stones some of these old, little known cemeteries had. We spent days, weeks, and months gathering information. Writing it down and drawing maps of the lay out of them as no information can be found on many of them. The RAOK started when the county web lady found out what I had been doing. She ask if she could add my name so people could contact me to find people or information on the cemeteries I had done. Of coarse I said yes, I know what it is like looking for information on a family member and coming up with a blank. Within the first weeks I had people contacting me from all over the world!
It has been really fun, and really rewarding to be able to help so many people. Many of them from Countries far from here looking for family members that had been lost track of many, many, years ago.
I never take money for my help, and have even travel miles away to get a picture of an old lost family members stone. People are so thrilled when they get the information that it is payment enough when they write to say how wonderful it is to have the picture or information that they have hunted for. It thrills me beyond measure to help someone, and what better payment is there than bringing happiness to someones life!
