In July, my Dh was offered a new job in Oregon. We currently live in Iowa and living in Oregon would put us within a few hours, instead a few 1000 miles, of family. This job would pay about $10,000 more than he makes now and the working conditions would be much better.
Move forward to now. We are still waiting to move. Yes, he still has the job, but there are a few wrinkles. His boss-to-be would be starting a new company and his family would be living off his wife’s income. Well, his wife’s company is being sold and deal was supposed to be signed in July. A deal was met in August, but something was left out so its back the drawing board. My Dh’s boss-to-be does not want to start his new company until his wife’s job is secure.
Meanwhile we are still waiting to move. My DH is still working at the job he does not like and we are not any closer to family.
We so want to move and are preparing to move. We were hoping to have moved by now. Each week, it is wait a little longer. The waiting is really hard on both of us. My Dh just talked to his boss-to-be and he and his wife are just as frustrated as we are. My Dh has worked for him in the past and is looking forward to starting this new adventure with him.

that does sound very frustrating, if you move now will hubby be able to find another job - if this one doesn't work out.

you are much braver then me, I would be too scared to put myself into such an unstable position. I read some where that 60% of all start up businesses fail in the first two year.

I hope it all works out the way you planbned though - that is just me being cautious (I guess that it why I am a public servant - very very very secure job - although sometimes not the best money)

I feel better today. I just need to wait.

As for the risk of a start up, it is a risk but a risk that we feel comfortable to make. The start-up is a weekly newspaper. The owner is starting small and building up. He is a wise business man.
Another thing is that if the company does fail at least my DH will have experience as an editor and we will be in the part of the country we want to live in.
In reallity, the paper my Dh works for now is in no better shape. It is corporate owned and they are always looking for ways to cut costs even at the cost of product and staff. The product has suffered greatly and the community is starting to complain.

Meanwhile we will keep persuvering and packing. I want to be ready to move when we can go.

It;s never any fun to feel like your life is "on hold" for a move...I've been there many, MANY times....and I'm thinking we will be there again very, very soon (but that;s a whole 'nuther thread).
Anyway, sorry that you are having to deal with all of this - keep us posted!

Where in Oregon would you be? Maybe we will be neighbors!

FWIW, the economic situation here is pretty good, so I suspect that he could get another job if need be. Housing may be more too, depending on where you will be living. Oregon really is a beautiful state with a wide variety of scenery, from high deserts to some of the rainiest areas on earth! Hope to see you soon, neighbor-to-be! We will be moving to Springfield.
I love the Pacific Northwest. I grew up in Olympia, WA and I really enjoy the weather. I love the beach and the mountains. One of our favorite places to go when we are visiting family out there is Lincoln City.
Housing prices are higher out there then they are where we live now, but more reasonable than other parts of the country. We rent now and will rent when we get out there so housing prices don't affect us too much.

I'm sorry you are having to wait to join me out here! I hope things will come together soon. I know how frustrating it can be to just wait, and wait, and wait when your whole life it dependent on one "little" thing. My husband used to work for a start-up and it was frustrating sometimes.

I am glad to hear that you are coming out here, though!

Patience, little one. There is a very good reason why this is going at the pace it is. The reason hasn't been revealed to you yet.

But you will look back and say.... 'ah-ha!'.
Be peaceful in your wait and it will all fall into place at the exact moment it was suppose to.

That didn't help... did it? That's what my mentor told me when I was impatient with results. But for sure, putting your life on hold like that is frustrating to say the least.

Thank you for your words. They are words that I know are true, but are hard to believe sometimes.
The little girl in me wants what I want now and does not want to wait.
The woman in me knows that waiting is best, but it is still frustrating. I can see so many blessing that will come after we move, but it is hard to see the blessing that are here.

I am so glad to see that their some Frugal Oregonians and even some right in Eugene. We were in Eugene this summer and loved it.
