I simply *CANNOT* believe this! (Good News)
Today we got our final paperwork in the mail for financing commitment for our mortgage. We are very excited - not that we were doubting we'd be approved, but we were still nervous anyway - and we now know that we'll be getting our house.
We're putting $23,000 down - when you add in closing costs, inspection, etc. - we were just barely squeaking it. I had considered cashing in a life insurance policy to get an extra $2,000 just in case, and my parents offered to loan us extra if we needed it.
Well today in the mail - besides the mortgage stuff - is an envelope from the Boston Stock Exchange. DH worked there for a year, and was laid off when they were acquired by NASDAQ in September last year (they shut the entire exchange down and laid everyone off). This envelope looks like a paycheck, but I'm thinking to myself - no way, maybe it's something related to his 401K that we just rolled over to his new job...
...nope. In appreciate of his efforts, and based on the recommendation of the senior staff, they gave him a check for $5,000. Seriously! And after taxes - it was for $8,000, $3,000 was withheld, so we won't get a surprise at tax time.
I cannot believe it - it sure could not have come at a better time! And I have never just had $5,000 free and clear fall into my lap before! I'm still pinching myself.

Yay, you! What an amazing feeling that must be. $50 or so unexpectedly makes my day. Multiply that by 100 and I'd probably fall over!

Oh my gosh! That is too cool!

How much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have. Life is full of people who have more than they know what to do with, but cannot be content. It is the capacity to enjoy life that brings contentment.---Unknown

Very cool, and excellent timing!
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
