Fall is in the air...who else is canning?
AHHH the days are getting crisper and cooler, my trees are starting to change color and if you visit my home you would hear the gentle clink, clink, clink of bottles in my canner. I have been canning for weeks so far I have canned: pears, applesauce, dilly beans, zucchini relish, triple berry jam, peach jam and I still have salsa and pear sauce to do. SO what have you been canning? And am I the only one who loves to stand back and just stare at my bottles?? I think they are so pretty all lined up!! Combine all of that canning with the fact that a local grocery store just had one of their annual case-lot sales (which I spent over $220
) My larder is full and I think I'm almost ready to hunker down and survive another winter.
I feel like a chipmunk gathering nuts! Share your winter preparadness plans and progress I love reading all of them!

Me! I've made salsa and pasta sauce. Tomorrow is grape juice and jelly. We'll see after that. Maybe some apple butter. I also gathered squash to store and am thinking this week I'll dig potatoes.

My mom and I do it together. So far: Peaches, pears, strawberry freezer jam, and peach jelly. Before the season is through we will add Salsa and Pepper Jelly as well as can any extra tomatoes.

I want to put in a garden and start doing this myself, but it will be a year or 2, since I'm pg. I like the sound of that Apple Butter....how do you make it? We have an apple festival near here every year, and they always have apple butter. Yum! I'd love to make my own though.

Here's a recipe very close to what I do. I tend to do it by guess and by gosh. I also can mine but it freezes well.

Looks like links aren't working. I didn't see the recipe :Crying:
I am so jealous! I want to learn to can. That's actually one of my goals next year. I had major garden set backs this year with surgery and all. So, next year I plan to have one going.

I have canned a few peaches, some pear sauce and some plums. I will do some more pears and pear sauce this week and then get started on raspberry freezer jam (strawberry is done). I think I'll do some apples and some apple sauce. That should be the extent of my canning this year. They DO look so nice all lined up on the shelf. I may have to invest in a pressure canner for next year.
