$1100 later and the car is fine but I'm not
Sigh. Our car died over the weekend, so on top of the transmission repairs we just had done 2 weeks ago we had to have the engine fixed. And it cost more than I was expecting. It all came out of the emergency fund, but now it's all gone and I'm so depressed. All that's left is the money we saved to pay the taxes at the end of the year. If something else happens I don't know what we'll do.
Sorry, I just need to vent someplace where people understand....

Oh I truly have a love/hate (mostly hate!) relationship with cars. I can't tell you how many financial plans and goals have been derailed and postponed because the dang car seems to "sense" when we are nearing our goal and decides to break a belt or a water pump or whatever. Big hugs to you and I truly hope your car "behaves" for a long time. Oh and good for you for having the EF in the first place!
Doin' the baby step thing!
BS1. EF fully funded
BS2. cc PIF
van $3,900 (pay-off goal is 7/09)
truck $7,000 (pay-off goal is 1/10)
The only thing standing between me and being out of consumer debt is: $10,900

Very sorry to hear about your car frustrations.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Can I join in your misery? I just put over $1,000 in new tires and shocks and struts on my van, and now hubby's little commuter car is having engine troubles. Ugh...

I'm so sorry; I hate car troubles. I hope you are able to replenish your emergency fund soon.

Do you have any kind of plan to put the EF back??
Are you currently snowballing debt that you can back off of? Which I know stopping the snowball is a real downer.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. I know it probably doesn't help much, but at least you had an EF in place to use vs. going into debt to fix it.
I hope you're able to build the EF back up again.
