My Mail Was Stolen!!!GGRR
WTH is going on?? It was exactly 1 week to the day that I had to chase a couple of idiots off of my property w/ a baseball bat - now today, our outgoing mail was stolen!! Thank goodness, it wasn't any bills, but still! I called the police & the postal inspector - they were a big help (sarcasm). Hurricane Ike is breathing up our skirts & if we have to evacuate I'm afraid we'll be looted the way things have been happening.

How do you know it was stolen?

Oh, geez! You poor thing. You just have too much to deal with right now. I'm glad there was no sensitive information to be stolen. I'm sorry this has happened to you.

Glad that it wasn't bills or checks, but still the nerve of some people! I guess you'll have to take your mail to the grocery store or post office to mail just to be on the safe side.

I put it out at 6:40 am & put the flag up.....about 12 I checked it b/c our mailman has a weird habit of being lazy & not putting the flag back down after he delivers our mail. The flag was still up and there was NO mail in the mailbox- which is very odd b/c we always get mail. We asked the kids if they had taken the mail(delivered mail) out of the box while we were running errands & they said that they hadn't. Okay....about 5 pm, the mailman drives up to deliver our mail & I asked him..."I know this is a silly question, but did you by chance pick up our mail earlier & had forgotten to deliver our incoming mail?"(that had happened a few years ago) He said that no, he hadn't been there earlier to pick up our mail & said that we needed to notify the authorities b/c it is a federal offense to steal someone's mail. ----I also had a gut feeling when I checked the box at 12pm.

I feel for you! Very frustrating. We have gotten dh's pay stubs with the tape on the envelope slit open and an envelope with my new discover cards open and missing. However I got the mail imediately once delivered.
The postmaster got real huffy and we got no where.
I hope you find out who took your mail. It is frighting.
I hope you all stay safe with the hurricane!~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

I'm so sorry. And you are right about the post office. They say messing with a mail box is a federal offense but in reality they do absolutely nothing. I had vandalism and garbage put in my mail box.
I took the mail box down. I would not be without my PO Box. Have you considered getting one? I know it is an extra expense but so worth it for the peace of mind. I only check mine once a week. Never a problem.

Mail (identity) theft is a big problem where we live. We have considered getting a mailbox with a lock on it ~ where the mail person can put the mail in, but we have to have a key to get it out.
And just dropping all of our outgoing mail at the PO.
Good Luck with the hurricane ~ you'll be in my thoughts.Last edited by Jamauk; 09-09-2008 at 11:37 PM. Reason: computer went psycho and posted before I was done typing.

WOW I can't believe that they didn't help much. We have never had problems with our mail coming in and being stolen.
One thing we have noticed though is that when we mail from the blue box at the PO (before the time of pickup) it takes an extra day to get to it's destination. If we mail from the house, it gets there in 2 days. If we mail from PO it takes 3. Same place.
Good luck on finding the culprit.

That's crazy. I would get a copy of your credit report and put a fraud alert on your accts just to be safe. I'd hate for someone to be trying to steal your identity. Whatever happened to just being honest and getting a job? Some people.

Sorry you are living under siege.
This is the kind of stuff that happens because we mollycoddle criminals. :rollingpin:
Make the time not worth doing the crime & I'm not talking wrist slapping here. Severe punishment for even the small stuff will make the
