9-11
I just put my flag out. Who else is observing this day and why?

I am observing today by allowing no news on tv/radio/computer. Every time I hear the memorial list I start crying all over again. I still have not been able to go to Ground Zero to pay my respects despite several trips to the city for that reason. Tonight at dinner my family and I will say a prayer for those still living with the pain both rescuers and survivors.
I do this b/c I lost many friends that day both fire fighters and office workers. Then through out the weeks of rescue work I lost several more friends to PTSD. It was heart wretching to see close friends walking around with empty eyes, making morbid/bad taste jokes about the site as a way to talk about the horrors with out crying.

We will hang our flag out as well. I did not know any 9/11 victims personally but they were fellow Americans, fellow human beings just doing what all of us do everyday working hard for their families, going on trips etc. I was 8 months pregnant at the time of the attacks so I can see the passage of time in my dd's growth and sometimes it feels so like it just happened and sometimes I look at my almost 7 year old and it feels like forever ago,.

I put my flag out. Not just today, but everyday! I do it when Wright-Patterson Air Force base does theirs. I also take mine down when they do.
See, I can hear reveille and retreat each and every day.
But today is also my birthday, so I am finally able to celebrate that without feeling guilty. It took me a long time to be able to do that!

I observe this day every year ~ if only to pray for all those innocent lives lost.

My flag is out today to honor the memory of all those who were lost 9/11/01 and everyday for those who sacrificed in the past, those who continue to serve in the present and for all the brave men and women who will serve our country in the future.
My thoughts and prayers for all the families who lost so much seven years ago today.

Moor - Happy Birthday to you!
Birthdays should be a time of celebration and not mourning or guilt.

I also will never forget.
I didn't know any of the victims personally but they all were lost in a terrorist attack on MY country. Since my ancestors and I have lived here for over 300 years it was a direct affront to me. Since I also have someone related to me in the military (including me) for over 400 years ... it hurts me even more.
I have a couple of dvd's about 9/11 that I watch periodically and I have a list of the victims in my favorites that I read regularly. Any time any of the footage or movies are played I watch them.
I personally think all the footage should be played evey year.Living Single and Loving it!

I posted in the General board. As a military family I'm reminded not just on 9/11 but every day.
