Default Several Hundred MIles Inland....Who'd a thunk?

Well I shouldn't have been joking yesterday morning about not even feeling a breeze outside. We got whipped here in Louisville and I am VERY lucky to have my electricity back. I can't believe that Ike stayed strong enough to do as much damage here as it did. WELL over 60 percent of the city was without power. Ours is back on in just over 24 hours which is very surprising to me as we're usually one of the last. Everyone else but 1 person I know other than my neighbors are still down. Got to go to mom's in a few minutes and help clear out the freezers. I'll check back in later on.

Obviously we're no where near as bad a shape as Texas but I am shocked by how strong this was this far inland. Hope everyone else is doing ok.

We had really high winds last night here in WNY. They are saying it was from Ike. It is hard to believe. There are trees down and many without power. We are fine however here.

I used to live in Louiville. GO CARDS.
Hubby and I both graduated from UofL.

The "eye" went over us in Longview Texas but right as it did it went tropical storm. We are 5 hours from Houston.

Our town is still trying to get power back to some.

I am in BG, but have relatives in Louisville (well, Dixie Hwy. area). My hubby's uncle got back from vacation last night and thought a tornado had come through! Who would have thought? I'd never really thought about having supplies ready in case we were without electricity ( or transportation) for several days. This make me think twice.

My friend Mike lives north of Pittsburgh and he said they lost power, had winds up to 50 mph and it basically did alot of damage to areas above where he was at. I know that southern Ontario felt it too.

It's weird because out here in Calgary, we had quite the crappy weather day the day that Ike came on board. Now it's 26C outside.

There are lots of people here in central ohio without power. My girls were out of school today due to no electricity. I know the columbus schools are going to remain closed tomorrow.

I can't believe how the winds were. I am just not used to that here. My mom lives on the beach in Flordia and this happens all of the time. Wow.

I'm in northwest Lousiana, fairly close to Cricketlegs in Longview. The wind was the worst I remember here. Getting into the library from the parking lot on Saturday afternoon was, well, a challenge. After fighting the wind and rain almost to the door, when I got to a covered section I just collapsed on a bench and sat for a few minutes before tackling the last 30 or 40 feet. Needless to say I was drowned and my (useless) umbrella looked like a nuclear mutant spider that had been in a train wreck. Some of the ribs were not just broken but actually twisted.

However, once inside, I could have been in a bunker two miles under the earth. I was a little sorry not to get to at least listen to the wind and rain. I was one of the lucky ones who did not loose power, but we still have some traffic lights out and I'm sure some are still waiting for power. It is rare to get that much wind even this far inland. I'm really astonished that you had so much up through the midwest.

We had rain and flooding in Michigan. There were cars stuck in the road. It went from 80 to almost freezing, too. My poor tomatoes!

I qoute this because the tomatoes comment caught my attention, Nothing happened to my sisters garden. It kind of surprised me.I guess the plants were all low and flexible enough that they just whipped around some.

I'm in Northeast Ohio and we were without power from early Sunday evening until about 10:30 Monday night. The winds were incredible, and there were downed trees everywhere.

Our friend owns a hardware store and has offered us a generator at cost- we are definitely getting our own, and soon!

I'm always fascinated at how weather works. Our wind was very strong yesterday too (obviously not even close to what others have experienced). I was really surprised how wild it was.
