Default LOOKING for that special little town

I was just went to Sumter, SC last week for a few days and I just loved it. My DH and I have been talking for a few years now of relocating to the south but just did not know where to move to. We would like to live in a smaller town "where everyone knows everyone". I am going back down in Feb. to scope out some locations and I would need some information and help on finding that small town. Please if anyone has any information on how to find that special town please let me know. Thanks everyone

that leaves a whole lotta towns wide open down in the south. Anything more specific as to what other things you would like your town to include? Do you like mtns, coast ,piedmont ,swamps, or rolling foot hills? Will one or both of you be working and how far would you be willing to travel to work and back? Do you want small town and rural but yet have cough* walmart n home depots within a certain distance? Do you want to be way out in the middle of no where and live with nature at its finest? Do you want acreage or just a small plot for house ?

There are loads of beautiful places down here but being a bit more specific would help immensely. I too am a northern/ western ny'er that has transplanted south and will never go back north... We are in north GA and there are wonderful small towns everywhere

We would like to like about 20-30 min. from town. Both of us will be working but driving does not bother us becuase we each have to drive at least 45 min now to get to work one way. We would like to be somewheres near water of a lake, river etc. Some little land not to much because we don't like spending all of our time cleaning the yard we like to have fun on the weekends. Thanks

I love north Ga. and Tenn. In Tenn I like Johnson City or anything in the tri city area under Bristol. I like Helen, Ga., Madison, Ga., and delonaga(SP?), Ga. a lot. We lived in Montgomery, Al. for a few years and camped a lot in those areas. Boone would be another cool place to live.

I agree with Lindsey, Dahlonega, GA is a lovely, historic town. It's near Lake Sidney Lanier and North GA College and State University is located there. It is a beautiful town and the countryside is breathtaking. Here's a few links to Dahlonega and a couple of surrounding attractions.

Thank you for the great information.. I can't wait to find that place for my family. I have a year to find it before we can move my last child graduates this year in june 2009 and that is when we are going to make the move in the end of that summer.

I love north Georgia, as well. I'd definitely recommended renting for a while before you settle down anywhere. There are lots of great small towns in the south.
