Coupon users face "cheap" stigma?!?!
http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/200...2:r1:c0.124782
I read this article and I had to laugh. I redeem coupons all the time, as many as I can and as often as I can. Combined with great sales, they can drastically reduce my food costs. Never in my life have I felt as though doing this attached some sort of stigma to me....let alone other people waiting in line.
What is this world coming to!

Sticks and stones may break my bones.............
But I'll be laughing all the way to the bank with my saved $$.
Interesting article though. Thanks!______

That cracks me up! If they only knew that some people take being called "cheap" as a compliment.

I dont' know about the shame stigma, , but I've had both cashiers and other shoppers get in a huff with me because I was redeeming a fist full of coupons. Whatever though, I'm the one laughing all the way to the bank.

Does anyone else find the reader's comments on news sites far more interesting than the actual news stories now?
This one is my favourite:
The only comment I get when using a coupon is "where did you get that?" from others in the queue. No stigma or guilt. I must be highly attractive.

Stigma away. Quite a large percentage of self-made millionaires use coupons to this day. (Source: Either "The Millionaire Next Door" or "The Millionaire Mind" - same Author). In fact, there's a great story of one such millionaire who's wife, upon hearing her husband tell her that he had just purchased, in her name, $8,000,000 worth of some stock or other, in order to provide for her own future security, said, "I appreciate that. I really do!", and went right back to her job at hand: Clipping the weekly coupons.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I'm cheap! What??!?
Lol I've never felt ashamed using coupons, Sometimes I have none to use, but most times our own store puts the store coupons right in front of the product so you can't miss it and just about everyone grabs them and uses them.
I have had one crazy experience where I had several coupons and the person behind me didn't seem to thrilled about it at all, imagine my surprise upon looking at what she was holding in her hand to discover that it was a handful of Wic vouchers. She stared me down like I was the devil for taking too much time with my coupons, talking to her friend on the phone loudly about "the lady in front of me as coupons...blah blah blah, and proceeded to talk trash about all coupon users on her phone, all the while holding a handful of Wic vouchers that take just as long to scan and process as the coupons do. Just when I start thinking that people might be gaining a little more respect for one another or common sense, some idiot like that shows up.

Say what they want. I'll always use coupons and discount codes to do my shopping. Call me cheap.

this is the mentality a lot of us question and sometimes make fun of.
making it seem that because we save a few pennies (which add up over time!!!) that we're silly or foolish is ridiculous in itself!
when we're all having trouble making ends meet, no matter how much you earn, the cost of everything is going up and up... and every penny, literally, counts.
i find it sad and appalling.

They can huff and puff all they want or go to another line. Not my problem if the computers aren't programmed correctly. Not my problem if the front end is understaffed. Unless they're paying my bill, why should I care??

Thanks for the article. Regardless, I still use my coupons, I don't care what others think.
