I was wondering....
If you have a "bad" experience with something how long is it before you use/eat that something again?
The other day I really wanted some grape juice. So while at the store I picked up a carton of Welches Grape Juice. I got home and poured it into a mug and this overpowering smell (think sulpher/rotten eggs) hit me. I made Joe smell it too and he said somethings not right. I took it back to the store & told them then I went to the cooler section and checked thru them all to see if there was a different date. All of them had the same "best bye" date and lot number on them as the one I returned so I decided to not get it again that trip and went and grabbed some apple juice instead...lol
I've had bad experience with certain foods/drinks before and noramally don't get them again for a few weeks but I was wondering if any of you did that to, or if you try it again immediatly or let it go for a long while before getting it again.

It depends on the item. I bought bad milk once and because it was milk, I got more right away.
I had bad mayo when I was 12 and have not had it since. I cannot get myself eat it or even look at it.Julie

Yeah it takes me a while....sometimes just the smell of something gets me all over again. I got sick on wine when I was young (ahem, yeah it served me right
). I still to this very day cannot drink a sip of wine that the gag reflex doesn't kick in.....tmi, sorry. It's the only thing that has that strong effect on me, thankfully.

If it is a brand I have never had before I am not willing to try it again. Though if it is a brand I have had and never an issue with it before I will have no problem buying it again. I would just do like you and not buy another that has the same lot number and stuff as the one I am having an issue with.

Once in college, I ate spaghetti O's before going out drinking. Uh...not a good idea. On the way home, I deposited those O's beside a bush. It took years before I could eat a can of spaghetti O's again. Blech. Isn't it funny that it didn't keep me from drinking in college.
I may give it one more chance depending on if I got sick on it or not. I have gotten food poisoning twice after eating at Perkins. I can't bring myself to eat there now. Too afraid.

We have purchased several bad gallons of milk at our Target, different times! So when we need milk, our 5 year old daughter helpfully reminds me, "don't buy it at Target, Mom! They have bad milk!".

About 10 years ago we went camping with a whole bunch of friends. On the drive down I was munching on some honey mustard flavored pretzels. Later on that day, some of the friends we were camping with cooked a steak dinner for us. I got a horrible, horrible case of food poisoning just a couple hours later (while camping no less) I had to have my BF at the time drive me home at about 1o'clock in the morning, I was that sick. After that, I couldn't eat anything honey-mustard flavored. Just the thought of it made me nauseated. Even though the pretzels had nothing to do with why I got sick I think because I ate them just a little while beforehand. Took me years before I could eat honey mustard anything again.
When DH was a kid his brothers dared him to drink tincture of ipecac (is that what its called?) and it was maple-flavored. Yep he got violently ill. Took him many many years but he can tolerate a LITTLE BIT of maple syrup now. But not very often. Half the time he eats his pancakes/waffles plain.“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.

courage to change the things I can,

It takes me a long, long time. My parents forced me to eat baked beans, and my babysitter forced me to eat a banana, both while I was in pre-school, and I haven't been able to stomach them since. I made Chili Mac (one of my very favorites) a few years ago and massively overcooked the noodles. It was so disgusting that I didn't make it again for a year and a half.

It depends on what it is, how much I need it, and how likely I would have it again.
If it is something I use often, I will go out and replace it immediately.
If it is something like 'bad' eggplant parm. I won't rush out and get it again, but I will most likely get it again.
And then there is sushi
never again!
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

The mind is a strange thing - I think the power of association takes over sometimes instead of true logic. I got terribly sick at a sandwich shop one time - BEFORE my food arrived (so I KNEW it wasn't their fault) - and it took several years for me to even be able to drive past one and smell their bread without retching. My sister joked that if you wanted to find one of those restaurants, just take me for a drive because she thought I could scent one about 8 blocks away. I did FINALLY outgrow it.

hmmm. we have had this problem too. We thought it was the brand at first, but have bought Byrne Dairy at Sam's and at Byrne Dairy stores. We thought maybe their coolers weren't cool enough or maybe that they leave them out too long when stocking?? we don't know. It just has a weird taste and even chocolate syrup doesn't cover it up.
