Default High fructose corn syrup isn't bad for you?

(darn I messed up the title by hitting enter accidentally - It was supposed to be high fructose corn syrup isn't bad for you?)

Ok. I was watching TLC after watching season premiere of Heroes (wow!! ). Anyways, a commercial comes on basically saying that high fructose corn syrup isn't bad for you in moderation. something about how it has the same calories as other sugars and that it comes from a natural product. Well, Cocaine comes from the cocao (sp?) plant, and it's natural, but yet that isn't good for us either. The commercial was of course paid for by the corn refineries. I went to the site they had at the bottom of the commercial and here's the link:
    http://sweetsurprise.com/
Of course I do not see anything that talks about why hfcs is bad for you = our bodies don't digest it right.
    What do you all think?

I saw a few of these commercials too, and they made me a little mad! Of course they are sponsored by the Corn Refiners Association. I think more people are trying to eat healthier, and avoid HFCS, and the corn industry is hurting.

I saw the same commercial... and the drink she was holding was red, if the HFCS doesn't send your kids over the edge the RED 40 will. Seriously, if the corn industry put their advertising money into research and figured out a more economical way to produce ethanol they would be able to move their product and still be honest about it's virtues.

I have seen those commercials too and thought what??!
On a related note, when I first moved to Iowa I was curious about what the trains were hauling. So I the next time I had to wait for one, I read the tanker cars it was pulling. This all said for corn syrup only. My thought was wow that is a lot of corn syrup.

I haven't seen it, but I'm personally not convinced HFCS is any worse for you than cane sugar. I've got a newsflash for our fat American butts. If we switched to cane sugar cookies, cane sugar coke, and cane sugar bread... we'll still be a bunch of fat a$$es.

The only reason that HFCS is in everything is because it's cheap. The only reason it's cheap is because of the ridiculous agriculture subsidies that support it. That commercial should make you mad for other reasons than health.

Both corn syrup and sugar should be lessened in the mass majority of diets in the US because its in all processed foods as well as salt.. but they wonder why children are so disorganized and off the wall now a days ( other then some parents aren't parenting and expecting the school system to do it for them .. grr other topic though ) the over consumption and early addiction to simple sugars causes havoc on their little systems.

HFCS is one of the nasty poisons that helps the body to break down at the cellular level and degenerate! The food Industry uses it because it is a elcheapo .

I see those commercials and laugh. You know they're running scared now if they are spending money to make commercials to get their "message" out. Yes, it's made of corn blah blah blah.

I am just trying to stay away from processed foods period ofr the health and the financial aspects.

    Who needs them.

I would rather make a cookie with WHITE SUGAR than feed the kids oreos with who knows what in them. Truthfully I tend to use alot of brown sugar.....and agave.

That cream filling did not come from the Earth I can tell you that!

I think we are all doing the best we can with what we have to work with.

As others have pointed out, HFCS is about more than just a sweetener. We should be avoiding all sugars, natural or manmade. HFCS is made from genetically modified corn that has been saturated with chemicals and stuff you wouldn't have in your house in any other form. The corn industry is running scared and they should be. There are more and more people waking up and realizing that what we are being fed is scary.

    good point shoiji:
What a shame on them, to think the public is so easily misinformed!!!
However, think of all these past 25-30 or so years the millions they've made based on ignorance (scientifically, medically) and misinformation!!!

sounds like most things out there... I'm not so suprised myself.
