Question old cat urine removal smell ????? need help right away

we seen a house we want to rent but the former tenant had cats and the smell of urine is really bad. she told me we could get new rug. and deffently i want it all done before we move in by nov 1st. Ill help them remove rug and underlay.
but she told me it really gross feces all along the wall what they had to clean up. they got it cleaned 2x by the professsional but i know the rug will have to come out this week.
theres only border to take off. no wallpaper on walls. But i have no black lite or place to rent one to see where else they could of peed downstairs.
I read all about removing carpet, vacumning up any crystals. cleaning with vinegar .
. bleach will make it worse it said because of cat amonia. and sometimes it so dfficult to get smell out u have to remove subflooring and prime all the floors and cement to make sure before laying rug on setting room part with underlay.
thers so many products out there but they dont always work and the smell will come back. i dont want that in my new furniture and kids bedroom or smell on him or his clothes. his bedroom will be next to setting room.
ther's no open windows to get fresh air either, they have dehimidifier on.
pleas tell right away what i should do or use. i love the house and area its in for my kids.

Odoban... seriously.. its the best.. it costs a bit but once it has a smell gone it stays gone. My mom swears by it because she has a cat that sprays pee up and out of the litter box and shoots a good 2-3 ft out. Her basement used to smell like amonia and musty pee til she started using it regularly. She got the refill gallon and has been using the same bottle for years!!

We had a similar issue in a previous apartment. The previous tenants had left two cats behind when they moved out and they weren't found for a few days The landlord had to pull out all the carpets & have the wood floors professionally treated. Honestly I think if you get the carpets out of there the rest should be easy.

We did have one problem spot that would start to smell in humid weather. It was an area that had never had carpet just wood floor. The landlord told us to buy FDS spray (the feminine deodorant spray) and spray the area. Lo' and behold, it worked!

Nature's Miracle is made for this very thing. You can find it at a pet store, or even cheaper on line at www.jefferspet.com. (No affiliation). They sell it by the gallon, too.

We once rented a house with that problem, the cement never did lose the smell even after painting it.

For priming the subfloor, use Killz Oil Based sealer and primer. We used it in our cat-urine smelling kitchen and it locked the smell right in.

I've used this and it did work better than anything I've seen.

what i've done in the past is to let a LOT of baking soda set in the carpet for about an hour.

    then vacuum it up.

then do a 2nd coat of baking soda w/some kind of "freshener"... I use ground up dry potpourri mixed into the soda... and let that lay on the floor for another hour.
    vacuum up.

that usually does the trick... for both cats and dogs.

repeat until smell is only of the potpourri.

I have used natures miracle also baking soda seperately and it has worked well. I would probably find out about painting the place. There are so many different kinds of paint that will seal things into the wall. Just sounds like the walls might still smell also.

Good luck with this. Hope it all works out for you!!! Let us know how it goes.

Any paint store should have a similar product. What you need is a high quality oil based primer/sealer.

I used vingear, my cat did the same thing, right before I had my son, we ended up getting rid of her, but I just dumped a small bottle of vingear on the carpet where she peed and let it still!! My friend just bought a house about a year ago and it wasn't until this summer that they found that they had cat pee smell in their son's bedroom. She used coffee grounds and let it sit for a day or so, then vaccuumed it up. I think she did it like twice just to be sure, but it worked for her!! I would also try the baking soda on the carpet/floor and then pour vingear on it, let it foam for awhile and then scrub it out!!!

I'd try anything, something's got to work!!

I wouldn't get the OUT! spray or something smiliair to that, they sell it at Wal-Mart and it did nothing for us!!!

I babysat a friends cat, who "hid" under a piece of furniture for a while. I didn't realize what he had really been up to until a couple of days later from the terrible smell. I tried every topical remedy, (we were renters) but the smell always came back. Sometimes weeks later, sometimes months. I agree, rip out all the carpet and seal the floor and 1/4 way up the walls. You only want to have to do this once! Good luck!!

It sounds ewww, but its actually what you want. Wood is porous, so animal urine soaks in, then gradually releases. Sealing it in is exactly what has to happen to keep from smelling it.
