I belong to two mom’s groups. One is an online group, we’re spread all over the country (Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Connecticut & Massachusetts) and one is a local play group for me & my son where we meetup at parks or each others houses.
My online group is less concerned about prices and the economy etc, than my local group and what I find amusing is that I live in CT. You would almost think the opposite.
I am the oldest in my local group and have been nicknamed the “frugal mom”. I wear this nickname with pride. We are constantly talking about tips to save on utilities, what stores are cheapest, who’s having what sale, we exchange coupons, clothes, baby items and many more things.
There are two women in my online group who are in dire straits financially and it kills me to hear them talk about how many packs of cigarettes they just bought or how many times during the week they stopped at McDonalds. I share the tips and things that I have learned from this site and things that I’ve found helpful without trying to say “this is what you should do”. They just don’t get it.
And my local group is just dying to hear some new tip that someone has for saving $.50 on groceries.
We just bought my 3yr old a small bouncy thing at a tag sale for $30, as Christine said, its ours to use until he outgrows it.
And marie78, my brother and his wife rented an old barn, decorated it with things from the dollar store/goodwill and had a pot luck and BYOB. I have to confess that my first thought was “you can’t expect people to bring gifts and ask them to bring their own food and drink”. But I have to admit when I’m wrong. It was the nicest wedding I have ever been too.Judy
