Default Me being a dork may help you get your kid to read.

I was in Borders the other day (picking up the third Twilight book, Eclipse) and saw a bookmark that, because I'm a dork, I HAD to have. The bookmark is called "Mark-My-Time" and it has a timer on it.

    They look like this:

I got it because I'm trying to figure out how quickly I read. But, since most people aren't as big of a dork as I am, they'd probably get it for the intended purpose... kids. The timer can be set to count up or down. It also can be set to display the time instead. They're $8.95. I've seen 'em on e-bay but the cheapest I've seen is $6.99 and the shipping they're charging makes it way more than that. I think it'd be a good way to motivate your kid, especially if they're involved in any sort of reward program where they get rewarded for the minutes they read.

I can see that as being a good tool to use with a child who resists reading.

We had one of these for my DS when he had to read a specified amount of time each night for school. He loved it! Of course now you can't get his nose out of a book (unless he's playing a video game LOL).
