I love autumn because all the leaves turn awesome colors and fall from the trees. I could do without the cold weather, though. Maybe I'm really a desert hermit and don't realize it.

The weather changed quickly here - from Indian summer last week, to temps in the 50's, rain, and changing leaves this week! Love it. The windows are open, and I love to snuggle in the covers at night-time.

I just had a warm piece of peach-pecan bread (homemade), and I want some hot chocolate now.

Fall is my favorite season and October is my favorite month. I love the bright last-hurrah of the leaves and mums. Henry David Thoreau wrote that he looked to the autumn leaves, for they taught him how to die.

While that may seem morbid, it is true that symbolically fall represents our old age, and winter represents death. It's all part of the natural cycle.

But how do the autumn leaves teach me to die? I want to go out in a blaze of color, and be vibrant to the end. So when I see the gorgeous leaves, it reminds me to stay active and give life all I have.

I couldn't have said it any better than forHISglory.

That is similar to how I am viewing the 'autumn' of my life.

I love the crisp cool mornings, and the warm, sunny afternoons we get here in Arkansas. With the windows open and the Razorbacks on the radio, I'm reminded of when I was a kid, and my dad was alive.

Our Chinese Exchange student is going with us on his first hay ride! He can't believe we go through the cemetery out in the country! We'll roast hotdogs, and take lots of pictures!

The mentioning of the Chinese exchange student reminds of when we hosted Japanese teachers. They lived with us for a year and were so excited about Halloween as it didn't exist in Japan. They wanted to go trick or treating, so I worked it out that they could go in a certain neighborhood. They pulled costumes together and made treat bags. I carefully tutored them in what to do: ring the doorbell, hold up the bag and say "Trick or treat!"

All went well until they had to say something. They rang the doorbell, held out the bags and then the carefully rehearsed words came out, "Take a treat!"

But they sure had a great time!

This is also my favorite time of year. I would love to have fall all year. I love the weather, watching the leaves turn, pumpkins and all of the local festivals. I agree with Palooka, it just makes me want to bake.
