What tragic story. At least Fannie Mae has forgiven the loan and the woman has survived. I hope she recovers.

That's very sad...and I feel sorry for that lady...

But, I'm not sure why the company forgave her loan? Don't get me wrong...older, widowed woman...don't know if she has any family or not... It would be scary. I feel bad for her... But, what's the message in that? Just shoot yourself and your mortgage will be forgiven? I don't get it?? (Sorry...confused???)...

I dont get it either but I am assuming they thought because she was 90 and she kept shooting herself so they wouldnt take her home they forgave the loan BUT I agree that what kind of example is that setting and personally I dont think it's fair at all.

I am glad they forgave the loan, but what was she doing taking out the loan in the first place. Why would an 85 year old take out a 30 year loan and why would the bank let her. The whole story just doesn't seem to make sense.

    Bad PR otherwise.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

    That whole situation is sad.

As far as what kind of message they're sending, I don't think anyone is going to shoot themselves to try to get a loan forgiven. They won't get the same kind of public sympathy this woman has had either, and when the company doesn't forgive their loan no one's going to care.
